I couldn't get this to work. I also tried the newest XP drivers on Dell's website. I read somewhere that DTS won't work on the OEM cards. That article was written with Vista in mind so when you get it see if it works. The Vista drivers are newer and it may be in there and not the XP drivers.

They sent me a used one that seems broken, so far. The drivers can't find the card. I guess I'll be giving them a call come Monday.

Use for your OS and replace the support.cab file with Reggie's file. Instructions are in Reggie's file link. You use winrar to extract the ISO and Reggie's file, then replace the support.cab and then run setup in the main directory. Everything should then install just like a retail card. Enjoy.

Download the XP ISO here http://files.filefront.com/ISO...5020773;/fileinfo.html

Download Vista ISO here
http://www.google.com/url?sa=t...Sdqz8JKtYCcLyOnj5QnAzw

Download Reggie's modded support.cab here
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/c...fi%20install%20mod.zip

Follow the directions with the modded file. You don't have to create a CD to install, but it is a good idea for backup purposes. After you install the software you can now update the drivers at creative's website and/or windows update.

Everything is functional except DTS. You have all the settings available here
http://www.creative.com/produc...gory=669&product=14066

If you only install the drivers from the creative website or windows update you won't have all the adjustable modes and features. But you can update the driver afterwards and retain everything. The option for flexijack has been tested and is working just as it should according to forum posters. I haven't been able to get DTS to work yet even with posted methods on the web. If you get it to work please post and I will update with the links.

Hope this helps people considering this.

I was able to get the sound working before with just creative drivers and the xp update from MS but this worked for me to get the Creative Console working. I still had to install the xp update for x-fi from microsoft first before I could get the sound working though.

You may want to try following Shaq's method first. The x-fi cd (I have one from a retail xtrememusic used in a diff pc) would not see the x-fi without first replacing the support.cab file in the linked mod in the audio/setup/ folder of the cd. After the file was replaced, it was detected and everything installed fine.

Yes the sound works with just the drivers, but it only has a stripped down version without the console and only has basic audio console settings. Also for some people after you install a driver the sound will be muted in the audio console because it thinks the headphones are plugged in. That is something else to check if the sound doesn't work and windows has detected the card and it says it is working in device manager.

Windows didn't detect my card at first either, but I still had my Audigy software installed. I removed that and it still didn't work. I don't know exactly what I did, but I know I rolled back the driver and rebooted and then windows recognized it and it worked. I believe I got the creative driver then the windows update driver and rolled back to the creative driver and I got the sound working after a reboot.

That's why it took me several hours to get it working including searching and download time. It won't work unless windows recognizes the card as new hardware when you reboot. Windows should see the card as is, but the retail software won't until you modify the file. So try different drivers and roll back and reboot a few times.

I am highly suspicious that your card is broken, given that I had to manually set my card's IRQ in my BIOS and installed the hacked ISO in safe mode before mine worked. Try some more stuff!

I nervously installed mine after I smelled blue smoke all over the card.
Glad it works.

So far, major improvement (especially with Crystalyzer enabled) over my SBLive 24bit

Hopefully it'll last like my other SB (not sure about the warranty of this 'OEM' card)

I finally got the card to work but no digital output and I have the flexijack module. I have another card that I got from Creative as a replacement with that same part #,SBO460. I used the retail disk with it and everything worked. The card was found and everything loaded up, just tons of software. The seal was broken on the anti-static bag and the color coded sticker had been applied. I bought the card for the digital output and that seems to be broken. I've tried two different toslink cables and a coax, nothing works.

how are you connecting a toslink to the card ? This card doesn't have toslink.

You need a 3.5mm spdif plug for digital out to use on the flexijack. What speakers are you trying to use with this sound card ?

I use a Cambridge FPS 2000

I have the Creative I/O module connected to the sound card and the toslink connected to the module. At the other end is an Onkyo HT-R500 receiver and 4 Boston Accoustic speakers and a Boston Accoustic sub. This stuff sounded great with the other extreme music card. I made the hacked install disk and everything installed. I have digital out to my front speakers but the rear speakers are down. I tried using the THX utility but it didn't do anything for the digital output. I have my other card wired out to my Carver amp using the analog outputs but this Onkyo doesn't have the analog inputs except stereo. I need to get that DD to work.

@Shaq: How does one tell the difference between the Retail and the OEM cards?
Mine has Model "SB04601D".
Also, I don't quite understand why Creative can't just release an "all-in-one" install disc,
and include the latest supporting app versions for both: XP AND Vista.
They've done so for their older cards: Win98 & WinXP on one Audigy install disc, for example.
As is, their current Vista ISO gives a "Please upgrade your O.S. to Vista" message, and refuses to
install anything on an XP machine.

After reading all these great reviews, looks like I might just have to pick one of these bad boys up.

Refer to my earlier post for the XP ISO link. There is a link for Vista and one for XP. Both use the modified support.cab called reggie's mod after the person who created it.

This is the REAL DEAL.

Thanks to Shaq  for the info on the ISO with the modded config files.
This really works. All features in the drivers are unlocked.

I have been a member here for a very long time and this has to be the best HOT DEAL I've encountered here.

Thanks.

That's good to know! I've only got a 2.1 setup but it's pushed with a $30 Audigy SE. I don't expect much but it will be nice to see if I can hear the difference, especially with phones. Got my tracking number yesterday with an ETA of this Friday and I've already DL'd the ISO.

I installed the card tonight and was welcomed with a BSOD after about 1 minute into windows while it was trying to find the drivers... I rebooted again and same thing as the same time in the same area... Then I decided to bring my machine down to stock speed and voltage, then it BSOD while I was loading windows... I rebooted again and it got to Windows and BSOD in the same place. I tried another PCI slot and it still BSOD... I took the card out and put back in my Audigy, clocked it back up to 3.33Ghz and here I am...

I am running X64 Vista and don't have much time to fool around with this. I am little dissapointed, but I am sure with some work I can get around this.

Funny though, this same EXACT thing happened with me 5 years ago with my Audigy and XP... It was a known issue with EMU10K1 would BSOD and was a wide spread issue. Creative makes some GREAT sound cards, but they have always lagged behind in their drivers. Some people never experienced the problem, but it was HUGE and VERY widespread...

Anyway, I gotta jet... Anyone who can help, I'd be in your debt!

Edit ** N/M I started to read through this thread and found the info! dowloading the ISO And modded cab file... Thanks!

Looks like I probably got one of their last remaining sound cards.

Ugg...as soon as I got my card I started the HotRod mod...and promptly jacked up the line-in opamp solder points. I'm going to quit while I'm ahead and leave the outputs alone. Anyone want my capacitor and 4 remaining opamps? I'd like to recoup some cost so make an offer.

Thanks,

I did that last night and followed the instructions! Worked like a charm!

Sound Quality is a LOT better than my Audigy 1 (hardware driven too)... Not sure why that is, as I seriously thought sound was perfect with the audigy, but it sounds better... Maybe my imagination. But, I do have to say that I am going to burn a CD and keep it SAFE, VERY SAFE as if I did NOT have this thread, I would be SOL.

Thanks!

Same here.... Ordered Monday and it arrived today. Installed with XP and not a single problem. The board shows it as an SB0460. Even on a set of $50 Boston Acoustics 2.1's I can hear the difference. It's a huge improvement over the Augidy SE that it replaced and very well worth the money, IMO. Very clear while delivering a nice punch.

Thanks to the OP and to Shaq for the great links!
