vista x64.

install latest fatality drivers, works great. i can reboot all i want and still works fine

however, if i click shutdown, upon reboot, i suddenly have no audio device installed.
i have to manually remove the driver and reinstall it.

what is happening during shutdown that doesnt happen when rebooting?
i cant figure this out for nothing and is driving me nuts

please help

(note: i do have system restore and page file turned off. never an issue before but thought i'd mention it)

ok, well i narrowed some things down a bit. tried several driver versions..same thing each one.
it appears to be the shutdown process itself which causes the problem on the first boot up, but not on sequential reboots.

for instance, if i shutdown, then boot on. i have no audio device. its as if there is no hardware.
after that first boot up, if i reboot then it will work fine and does so after every reboot unless i press shutdown again.

so whats different between reboot and shutdown procedures?
any help or suggestions is appreciated
tahnks in advacne

As far as windows is concerned there is no difference between reboot and shutdown then seperately boot, as it's still being kicked out of memory then loaded back in; it's just that the board has been told to power back on immediately after shutting down. I'm not sure why that would affect your sound card being detected, it almost sounds like when it's being shut down the board is cutting power to it and not turning it back on until much later than if it was left on while the system rebooted, if you know what I mean.

today i tried a fresh install. i then installed SP1 and every single update. the audio card does same thing. rebooting it works fine. press shutdown then back on and its like there is no hardware there till i reboot.

must be a driver thing but i've tried beta and previous version of it. i've been back n forth with creative support and they act like their noob's. i made a list of everthing i've tried and their response is for me to try something that i just mentioned to them that i already did. lol

guess everyone else is right, creative does suck. shame too though cause the audio card sounds amazing, even better than my xfi platinum or razer barracuda.

still having the issue, though i may have found a culprit.

"For the HTPC enthusiasts out there, the GTX 280 and 260 can output the following audio formats over HDMI:

2-channel LPCM
6-channel DD bitstream
6-channel DTS bitstream

that might explain why my creative is listed as a second audio device...how do i turn this feature on my graphics card off? might be whats causing my issue i dunno

Very interesting.

In the Device manager, expand the item that lists the sound devices.
Right click on the device you want to disable and click "disable".
