I went to see the latest X-Men movie tonight, and it wasn't too shabby. While this wasn't a common opinion, I wasn't exactly a huge fan of First Class. I thought it flailed around too much with an uninteresting villain (January Jones -- Emma Frost -- was the only nice thing to see there!), and focused heavily on a cast of what felt like Real World: Mutants. I kind of wish that Kevin Bacon's character would've killed a few more of them. The only thing good about the first one was Charles and Erik, and I'd argue that this one was really more of the same in that regard.
However, I think the difference between the two lies in their emotional focus. A good villain serves as an emotional focus because you despise them, or depending on the character, you might actually like them in some twisted way. However, Days of Future Past (this isn't really much of a spoiler, but I'll tag it anyway)
However, I think that's part of what made the movie a bit weaker for me. Ultimately, (yet again, not much of a spoiler if any...)
One note for the ladies, you get to see Hugh Jackman ass.
Also, there is a teaser scene for the next X-Men movie (note: the title of the movie will spoil the teaser) that is after the full credits! (note: not the fancy credits)

doesn't really have a villain. The emotional focus is on the idea of hope... as the move loves to mention quite a bit at the end.
I had the same problems with Marvel's Civil War as I did with this movie. The ending felt somewhat abrupt and too "neat".
