x1600pro and problems..

I used to have a 7800 gt on my computer but sold it recently, my source stress test @ 2048x1536 2xAA and 16xAF used to be 94fps.

Tonight I went to bestbuy and wanted to try out the ATI stuff, x1600pro 299.99, the next to it is a BFG 7800 GT for 349.99.

After I installed the 6.3 ccc it won't start up until I used the major log thing, this took me almost 1 god damn hour to figure it out, I decided to oc it a bit cause I used to oc my 7800gt too. The core/mem went up to from 500/400 to 600/450 not bad... but the bad thing is my source stress test went down from 94fps to a holy stuttering 23 fps.. I was expecting a little higher for a 600 mhz card guess I was wrong :-/ btw: high quality af was nice but performance costing. and Yes I hate ATI drivers but I still love ruby.

So for ur money/performance sakes stay away from the x1600s.

Why in the hell would you buy a X1600pro for $299 at Bestbuy when it can be purchased at Newegg for $111.00 - $135.00?

FFS, look at the specifications a little more closely next time instead of just looking at the GPU clock. 12 pipes, 128 bit memory bus, GDDR2. Of course it's going to suck.

well... yeah man.... a 7800gt is going to mop the floor with a x1600pro... did you just assume they'd be close since the price was close? cuz if you knew where this forum was, you'd think you would have knew to read a review or two.. unless there was some other motive behind gettin that ati card... did you have a buget and def wanted to get ati, while not shopping online?

Dood, what do you want me to tell you, you are trying to compare price vs performance using BESTBUY prices of all places. Uhhhh HELLO?

The X1600 is a different class of video card from the 7800gt. Yet you arbitarily go to bestbuy to buy a card by saying "OH HEY THESE ARE IN THE SAME PRICE RANGE KINDA", and then report back to say essentially "HEY THE X1600 ARE CRAP."

Yes I know the X1600 are crap compared to a 7800gt, we all do, but the methodology you use to come to this conclusion is ludicrous. Like JD103 said, you can pick up an X1600 for a fraction of the cost you paid. If you wanna do a true cost to performance analysis, do it right and then make your claims.

To be fair let's look at some of the stuff you say: "So for ur money/performance sakes stay away from the x1600s."and my favorite "it's amazing how 50 dollars can give 300% faster performance"

For the sub 150 dollar video card class, hey the X1600 might fit the bill of someone's needs! It does what it needs to do for a fraction of the cost of a 7800gt.

Yeah unfortunately this is why these forums exist, so people dont get ripped off. Title of the thread should be Best Buy Succesfully rips another uknnowing customer off. Think of it, if a person whos a member of these forums can be duked so easily, they must make huge amounts of money on ignorance.

Instead of spending $350 on the 7800gt BFG at Bestbuy, I would suggest getting
the 7900gt at mwave for $320. Lower price with a much better performance. Can't
beat that.

I think everyone here pretty much hit the nail on the head. Best Buy = ripoff central. I only go there whenever I end up getting gift cards from relatives on christmas or whenever.

And, as others have said, it's no fair comparison; these cards are of different leagues. Furthermore, at this range of cards, I doubt they'd be able to make full use of their individual features. Still, it would be nice to see a full-on 1600XT vs. 7600GT fight...
