Here is what you have to do.
Take the cooler of the card by removing the back screws of the board.
Take a close look at the memory and you are in the game.
Most likely you will find

K4J52324QC BJ12 (Samsung 1.2ns) up to 1600mhz on it.

Now the card is undervolted so that means you have to flash the bios. Here is an easy going to try something out first.

Download Overclocker here http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/89/mirrors.php

Raise Voltage to 1.3V Core and 2.0V memory. Increase the Core to 625/memory to 750 to reach the standart of an XT Card. Make a few benchmarks and see if it runs stable.

Now You have the option to flash the bios

http://www.k-hardware.de/news.php?s=&news_id=4716 here you can download the bios version with winflash tool.

a) Save old bios
b) Flash new bios
c) restart and done.

Maybe you will have some driver problems you might have to use a driver cleaner or install omega drivers.

Be patient, flashing turns of the screen for several seconds depending. So don't restart or do anything what could kill your card.

Now here is the usually. Overclocking or Biosflash do void warranty on this card. You are alone responsable if you should do such an act.

Important: Check what kind of memory is on this card.

Thats it enjoy a fully working X1800 XT OC for $220 bucks.

Good post. But for a lot of people (like myself), it seems kinda risky when full x1800xt aren't a whole lot more after rebates. But definitely good for the adventurous.

[edit] Hmmm...I guess the x1800xt's are a bit more expensive than I thought.

Yeah i thought too that they are still a little bid expensive. But this is really easy to do all you need to know for sure is what memory is on the card and you can do that without voiding the warranty.

I can't tell you that but I think they are all running with this ram. Here is my theorie:

MSi didn't sell enought X1800 XT's now the X1900 Series is out since a while and nobody wants to buy X1800 XT's for the price. So they locked the bios up put it into a new package and sell it as XL. The retail box doesn't even show X1800 XL on the box other then on the stickers so you can tell it has been made in a hurry and wasn't planed. I would say 99% you get the 1.2ns memory on this card.

I've been wondering about this...this card has been $219 for a little while now, and would be great if it was pretty much a fool-proof unlock/overclock to full XT speeds. But if it's not really likely that I would be successful, I almost think I'd rather go for that $199 256MB X1800XT (open box) that Newegg has from time to time (given that the XT seems quite a bit faster than the XL at high resolutions)...

Edit: Is this a single slot card? If so, that would actually be a good thing in my case...I only have two PCI-E slots (x16 and x1) and a dual-slot card would block my x1 slot if I wanted to use it for a new HDTV tuner later...

I can tell you, it is fool proof. There is no unlock to do cause XT and XL both run 16pipes. All it is, Voltage / Bios to run at the higher speeds. Even the cooler on this card is a full working XT Cooler.

Trust me on this you wont be disappointed. I will try different bios versions out since the Sapphire OC gives me an X1800 mobility through omega drivers. I checked some Crossfire out and i m not fully but partly satisfied.

I will try the Gigabyte and the MSi X1800 XT bios out now.

Hmm...thanks for the explanation. I'll definitely consider jumping on this once I get a bit more cash

Yeah it is, indeed i just went from Samungs Website and looked the 2V up. The 1.8V should be enough but 2V is within Samsungs Specs. That of course depends how high you want it.

BTW I modified the original X1800 XL bios from MSi and modified it. So i have no issues with Crossfire or the original ATi driver. I used RaBIT 2.0 for that and it worked fine i had to increase the Voltage a few times.

The 2V is more for the extreme but with that 800 / 1600 is no efford for the card. Yeah there are 7900GT deals around but this card is 512mb which makes a little bid of a difference if you run High resultions.

I've been eyeing this card, and I suspect ChooChoo's theory is right.

I think I will order one tonight. If I do, I'll report back.

X1800XT is as fast as a 7900 GTX, especially with AA/AF

....and it has 512 MB memory compared to 256 MB on the 7900 GT

... and the 7900 GT still costs close to $300

... and you got pwned !

Where did you get the X1800XT is faster than a 7900GTX? The X1800XT is comparable to a 7900GT performance wise.

Plus if you are willing to flash the bios to an X1800XT, then you're most likely willing to voltmod a 7900GT, which becomes a better deal than the X1800XT.

The 7900GT is a better deal if you're willing to go through the trouble of bios flashing.

I'm sorry, but I just can't take it anymore. If you have nothing to contribute to this thread except for 7900 spam and arguments then please leave. I am so F'ing sick of the people that argue which is better. I've owned both - neither owns the other - volt modded or not.

This is NOT a personal attack on you Buzzsaw - I'm just sick of reading the F'ing argumants.

Actually i appreciate the statement since its all about 1 Card.

X1800 XL can be modded to XT with 512mb DDR3 1.2ns....

So back to topic would be great. I also would appreciate some input from other buyers if there is somebody else who purchased this product.

I think im gonna order this card today......do you think a 450watt dual rail PSU with 15amps on 12v1 and 17amps on 12v2 will be enough to power it? It's the PSU in my sig.

While I generally agree with you, I think in this particular case the post was warranted as he was clearing some slight misinformation (the post he quotes I think accidently typed GTX on the first line instead of GT), plus brings up a very valid point in regards to this card and modding (if you're seriously considering modding this card, it would be silly not to at least look at volt modding a 7900GT before making a decision).
