I'd do it if I I had a larger monitor, I can't justify spending a couple hundred on a new card when my X800XL is still working just fine @ 1280x1024, even on the newest games I play.

CrazyHorse at SD has supposedly obtained 700/800.

I was on the fence at $220; for $200 I'm in!

I was just wondering... is there a reason to flash the bios on this if it will clock the same as the x1800xt? Is there something you get by flashing it to an XT that you don't get from just running the same speed as an XT?

Also, does this come with a DVI to VGA connector, or can you only use DVI?

Oh, and do you think it will fit in a Dell 8400 (and have enough power?)

You should be fine, I ran it on my PSU with 17A and 16A on my rails just fine when I had an X1800XT

Can someone take a pic of his/her card, and post it?

All you really need to do is check to see if it has 6 phase inductors instead of 5. That's the difference I've noticed between the XL and XTs.

It MUST be the same PCB for all... I would only think that 100% will flash.

How can you tell?

I would like to know this also. Can anyone explain this?

I thought it was the extra "flux capacitor"

As far as i can tell by the pic at ZZF there are 6 MOSFETS/Inductors whatever they are called on the PCB. However I wont know for certain until i recieve my card....hopefully by the end of this week sometime.

Mine comes tomorrow and although I have a term paper to start (due Friday) I'll at least open it and take some pics.

Edit: I fully expect it to have the 6 MOSFETs as ZZF and MSI sites picture.

So, is the deal supposed to be that the MSI boards have 6 just like the XT version, while other brands have only 5 for the XL's?

I dont know that any other brand makes a 512mb version of the XL. The Hot deal is the fact that it is selling for $199.99 w/free shipping and has been known to flash to an XT. That means you can essentially get an X1800XT 512mb card for $199.99 shipped. This only pertains to the cards with the 1.2ns memory, but most seem to be getting it.

Received mine today from Zipzoomfly for the 199 deal.

I'm glad to report 6 Mosfets and 1.2 Memory marked K4J52324QC BJ12.

I will not have time to test it tonight but I removed the heatsink to verify the memory. Deal is HOT!!!!!

Here is what you have to do.
Take the cooler of the card by removing the back screws of the board.
Take a close look at the memory and you are in the game.
Most likely you will find

K4J52324QC BJ12 (Samsung 1.2ns) up to 1600mhz on it.

Now the card is undervolted so that means you have to flash the bios. Here is an easy going to try something out first.

Download Overclocker here http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/89/mirrors.php

Raise Voltage to 1.3V Core and 2.0V memory. Increase the Core to 625/memory to 750 to reach the standart of an XT Card. Make a few benchmarks and see if it runs stable.

Now You have the option to flash the bios

http://www.k-hardware.de/news.php?s=&news_id=4716 here you can download the bios version with winflash tool.

a) Save old bios
b) Flash new bios
c) restart and done.

Maybe you will have some driver problems you might have to use a driver cleaner or install omega drivers.

Be patient, flashing turns of the screen for several seconds depending. So don't restart or do anything what could kill your card.

Now here is the usually. Overclocking or Biosflash do void warranty on this card. You are alone responsable if you should do such an act.

Important: Check what kind of memory is on this card.

Thats it enjoy a fully working X1800 XT OC for $220 bucks.

That seems like an awful lot of work and risk to get out of dealing with a rebate. (not to mention voiding your warrenty.)

To Sonikku.....you posted a link to the 256mb card. The card in question is a 512mb card. Post the link to the 512mb x1800xt and you will see a $100 difference.

So if you feel the need to spend $100 for a Limited 3 year warrenty, you are certainly within your rights to do so. I, on the other hand have never had a card just up and die on me within 3 years of standard use so I would rather save the $100.

My order is still pending, but I'm 100% confident that it's going to work its way out to x1800xt... I'm SO confident.

It only makes sense b/c there really is no x1800xl 512mb that was specifically manufactured as that... AND, the 6 phase inductors to the right are the design of the XT PCB. The x1800xl only has 5.

And thank you for the confirmation, LordGestle...

Don't hold me responsible, but I see no reason why anyone would DOUBT that this is an XT in disguise.
