Im still kinda confused...how do I check the memory? Am I taking off the heatsink? Wont that ruin the cooling capabilities? Itd be nice if I could get a picture...wheres the RAM and where am I looking for the 1.2ns thing? Or what does it actually say on the RAM?

You will need to remove the heatsink to verify the memory. The only reason I removed mine was to verify since no other reports were posted outside of Choochoo. If you receive other reports I would almost bet on yours having the same configuration.
If you want to be certain you will need to remove 8 screws on the back of the video card. The memory is using thermalpads and the gpu is using some type of gray thermal paste. I'm not concerned about loosing thermal connectivity as I wanted to see what was on the GPU plus verify the memory. If I see unusual temps I will simply clean and reapply some AS5.
Once the cooler is removed you will see a PN listed on the memory. PN# K4J52324QC BJ12 indicates you have the 1.2 memory matching the XT specs.

I m glad you guys found this deal worth trying out. To the guy who said CrazyHorse from SD posted 700 / 800. Well thats me, sorry about the confusion but CrazyHorse was not available when i signed on here.

So i m ChooChoo here and CrazyHorse in SD.

Anyways, i hope you find that the card is worth the money and yeah i m kinda pissed to that i paid $20 bucks more but thats life.

I actualy came higher then that. I could do 840 on the memory i pumped the Voltage up to 2.1V on the memory and well the Core i haven't really tried to past the 700 just yet. I was actually thinking of getting some better cooling on the card but the only coolers i could find is the Artic Cooling X2 or the Zalman VF900... .

I still try to figure out which one of both has the better results, it seems there are many reviews out there but not one of them compares those to directly with each other.

Any suggestions for the cooling, water is not an option right now.

Have you tried flashing to the XT PE bios? Listed under Sapphire here.

Maybe consider the Thermalright V-1 Ultra as an alternative, too.

You can view the Thermalright on Thermalright's web site.

A comparison test on an x1900 between the V-1 Ultra and the Accelero X2 on Legion Hardware.

Hope this helps you out.

Do you know what the difference is? I assume it runs slightly faster than the non-PE version?

I believe the PE is 700/800 as opposed to 625/750. I've heard MANY people doing it successfully on regular XTs, but I don't know how well it'll work on this card... these cards may have been speed binned also... but it's worth a shot to OC manually to see if it's stable, and then flashing.

*edit*
actually, does anyone know if the PE bios is the same voltage as the XT bios... if not, what are the voltages?

It is possible that these cards fall short of XT specs when it comes to speed. However, it is very likely that MSI didnt sell enough of the XT series and just decided to rebadge them to get a lower price point. I guess we wont know until someone tries it out. I wont be recieving my card until Monday .

Also manually overclocking to test the desired speed is always a good idea b4 flashing. I'm not sure about the voltage for the PE bios. Make sure to back up the original bios before flashing as well due to the rarity of the card, the original bios may be hard to get ahold of.

Those who have received this card, does it come with a dvi to vga adapter to connect a non-dvi monitor?
Also, could you measure the card, I'm trying to see if it will fit in my case, but I can't find any measurements for it.
Thanks.

Here is what you have to do.
Take the cooler of the card by removing the back screws of the board.
Take a close look at the memory and you are in the game.
Most likely you will find

K4J52324QC BJ12 (Samsung 1.2ns) up to 1600mhz on it.

Now the card is undervolted so that means you have to flash the bios. Here is an easy going to try something out first.

Download Overclocker here http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/89/mirrors.php

Raise Voltage to 1.3V Core and 2.0V memory. Increase the Core to 625/memory to 750 to reach the standart of an XT Card. Make a few benchmarks and see if it runs stable.

Now You have the option to flash the bios

http://www.k-hardware.de/news.php?s=&news_id=4716 here you can download the bios version with winflash tool.

Ok, I follow the link and I feel completely retarded because on this German site I can't seem to locate the actual link to initiate the download of the BIOS. Anyone else having this problem? I'm using Firefox.

a) Save old bios
b) Flash new bios
c) restart and done.

Maybe you will have some driver problems you might have to use a driver cleaner or install omega drivers.

Be patient, flashing turns of the screen for several seconds depending. So don't restart or do anything what could kill your card.

Now here is the usually. Overclocking or Biosflash do void warranty on this card. You are alone responsable if you should do such an act.

Important: Check what kind of memory is on this card.

Thats it enjoy a fully working X1800 XT OC for $220 bucks.

The fact it's a dual slot tells you it is an x1800xt. This seems as good a deal as the x800gto2's.

The 1800XT goes on ebay for about $240 + shipping. I wonder if it makes sense to buy this XL for $50 less. It's performance may be the same as that of the XT but its resale value may well be $50 less than that of a genuine XT come time to upgrade from it.

um- YEAH captain obvious
isnt that pretty much applicable to ALL products- you pay for $50 cheaper model and should expect it to sell $50 cheaper later?
That was obvious wasnt it?
or am I sleepy?

The lowest 512meg x1800xt I see in the last 2 weeks on ebay is 275 when you count shipping (I did see one card went for $240 shipped May 25th, but it was used) and the average is closer to $300. Maybe you were looking at the 256 meg version... that's the common mistake being made. And resale will definately be less than a genuine XT, but I hold onto my cards till the resale doesn't matter anyway. I'm upgrading from an x800se.
