I was using atiflash -f -p 0 newbios. This does not flash everything and the same for winflash.
To truly flash the card you need to use atiflash -newbios -f -p 0 newbios.bin.
Instructions found here.

After that I'm now able to install drivers using the ATI CC and the card is now a true X1800XT.
Time for some benching and I will report back in this same thready.

I used LordGestle method flashed the card to a Sapphire X1800XTPE. The card is runing 100% stable with 2+ hrs of 3Dmark06 test. Thanks LordGestle!!!

P.S. I recommend not to use the Windows version Atiflash, you won't get a true X1800XT. and you will have problems with installing both ATI CCC and Omega driver

Sssuuhhweeet! Nice job man.

Edit: What are your temps like running those speeds?

X1800XTPE is clock @ 700(GPU)/800(MEM); I am using ZALMAN VF900, and my temps are 45-48 idle and 68-72 loaded. The temps seems a bit high, but if you do some research, you will see 55(idle) and 78 (loaded) temps are quite normal for this card.

I posted in the other thread but I have one pending issue. I'm having trouble getting the memory to pass =>750. 725 is good. I'm still testing and will post results.
Thank you LordGestle!

I was trying to get the flash working for at least 6 hours in the last few days. I flashed with 5 different bioses, even a msi x1800xt bios that I had ALOT of trouble getting a hold of, all of them would not allow me to install drivers properly. I got very pissed off, took out a lot of anger on my heavy bag.

I am now a x1800xt PE!(700/1600) The command "-newbios" solved everything!

Curious to know if you are running the stock cooler and what temps you're getting?

No reason to have a msi bios, it makes absolutely no difference which bios you use. At first I believed that msi cards were only compatible with msi bioses, but it turns out msi bios is a clone of all other bioses.(meaning you wouldnt even know its a msi bios!)

Right now I am using a sapphire x1800xt OC(PE) bios, temp is around 70C load with fan at about 48%. x1800xt's run hot, 70c is perfectly fine for them.

Now guys lets talk about some serious aircooling for that card to get a little bid more out of it.

Arctic Accelero X2

or Zalman VF900-CU ?

Any suggestions or any link where both get compared ?

Quick comparison question guys:

About how much of an improvement would this card give over a Radeon 9700 pro/9800 pro? How about over a Radeon X800XT/X850XT (any X800 series product with 16 pipelines)?

Naturally, this would be with all other factors being held equal.

Also, how loud is this card (idle/load)?

Thanks!

Wow, my birthday is friday and I'm seriously considering this card. How long will this deal go for, and is everyone getting the flashable versions? Also, I'll be upgrading from an x800xl and I play mostly BF2. The comparisons I've seen show the x1800xt as almost double the framerates as the x800xl. How does this compare to to the x800xl before flashing?

Thanks guys!

Also, does this come with a DVI to VGA connector, or can you only use DVI?

Oh, and do you think it will fit in a Dell 8400 (and have enough power?)

The 8400 PSU will be fine for this card, there is also room for dual slot cards as well.

This card is always flashable. There really is absolutlly no chance of getting a non flashable one.

About the cooling, If you put it higher than 50% it makes a pretty audible whine noise. at 30% the fan is basically silent.

I set my fan to run 33% idle and 42-55% under load depending on the temp.

Can someone change the first post?

If you flash it that way you will run into driver problems. Make sure people know to add -newbios command to

atiflash -newbios -p -f 0 yourbios.bin

^^that is the real command to make it work. Do it another way and it will not work properly.

If its always flashable, or at least the clockspeeds should reach the x1800xt level I'll probably get it. Even if it doesn't it seems like it falls between the x800xl and the x1800xt while stock.

Are there any aftermarket coolers for these cards that exhaust heat out of the case, like the older silencers, and quiet the cards? I returned my old 6800gt because it was $100 more than the x800xl and it sounded like a jet turbine spooling up.

Thanks for the info, it seems like it's 1.6x (60%) faster before the mod. What about after the mod (if you performed the mod/flash)?

I actually may end up getting a used LGA775 + Celeron D combo so I can get this (or another) PCI-E card.

Thanks.

Is it important to change the voltage and speed of the card and then flash it to an XT? Or does flashing it to an XT automatically change the voltage/speed?

Yeah, well I tried two BIOSes today: a MSI XT one (from the XT version of this card) and a Sapphire one (from TechPowerUp). Neither let me do a thing with my memory (they both artifacted instantly when I tested at 5xxMHz). Tried going back to the MSI XT (from Sapphire) and my flashjob turned all colorful. Well, an hour later now I've managed to get the stock BIOS back on and I'll be waiting to hear what I should try next. I have confirmed the 1.2ns memory on mine so I dunno whats up.

Where are you finding the bios files? I tried the link to the german page, but couldn't find any actual link to a bios on that page.... of course I don't read german either. Tried the mfg site too, but couldn't find anything.

Edit: Nevermind... I didn't RTM... found the files.

It is not 100% guarenteed that all these cards will handle the XT speeds and voltages. It is always a good idea to try manually overclocking the card with ATITool before flashing the card, and save your original bios before you flash to XT. This should prevent anyone from killing their card. Also you should use Atiflash v3.09 and the atiflash -newbios -f -p 0 yourbios.bin command when flashing. Replacing yourbios with the name of the bios you want to use.
