x1800 XL -> XT worth $120?

Have an option of getting the x1800XL for $340 or the x1800XT for $480. The other option I was considering was the 7800GT (oc'ed) for $320. Question is, would you rather have a 1800XL > 7800GT due to problems like shimmering? Second, is the upgrade of $120 to go from XL -> XT worth the money given the performance delta?

Edit: I should note I am running a 19" LCD.

Sorry, sig is just stuff I was aiming to get, not what I actually have in possesion.

yes, personally i prefer ati graphics to nvidia graphics....

i currently own a 6800gt@ultra, but had a 9800pro and can say that between driver and image quality, for another 20 bucks id get the ati for those facts as well as the fact that many x1800xls have proven to be pretty good o/cers, so when arctic cooling finally get their asses in gear, cooling/noise shouldnt be an issue for the card either, and you should probably reach x1800xt speeds on the core, not the ram however...

I'd pick X1800XL over 7800GT. Also X1800XT definitely would be worth the price premium if you're talking about 512MB version.

XT is definitly worth it.

Id say XL > 7800 GT if they performed equally, but the fact is the the GT mutilates the XL 50% of the time, and beats it 90% of the time. I can't pay more for a good bit less performance.

1. AT's benchmark list is not comprehensive.
2. AT doesnt have the fix for FEAR.
3. AT has B&W2 bench which might be a bug.

Funny you said ATI owned game SCCT but didnt mention GT winning in Quake4, Doom3 both of which are Nvidias. :roll:

Back OT. Go for the XT. These things are still going for almost $600, and if you can get it for under $500 I would do it.

The cards maybe more or less equal, but the 7800gt is cheaper. The only reason you would buy an 1800XL is if you are partial to ATi cards and are willing to pay a premium for it.

I would definately get the XL over the GT, performance is about equal but the XL offers a better feature set and much higher image quality.

The 480 for the XT sounds like a good deal to me, if you can afford it then buy it
