From the benches I saw, the $350ish 7800GT outperformed the X1800XL pretty steadily. Not good news if you're ATI trying to sell a slower card for $100 more.

X850 Crossfire card is also avail at newegg; http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102611
A Crossfire board is also avail, but from a UK store..

Nvidia had the luxury if introducing cards at high price tags because there was no competition. ATI however does not have such a luxury.
NV hasnt changed the price of their cards. They set a MSRP, resellers can either choose to sell at that price, or not. Just as hopefully the X1800XL will drop soon too. ATi set the MSRP, and resellers can do the same, sell at it, higher, or lower. Hopefully it will drop. It the cards are not in any shortage, it should. newegg will let you add 99 to the cart.. so I dont see a shortage, at least from newegg.
Like many here, I wouldnt get a X1800XL at its current price. Once it drops to close to the 7800 GT it will be a viable option, imo.

The way some nVidia defenders talk, it would have been better for ATI to hold back information from the consumers longer. What kind of consumers are we to point "paper launch" fingers at a company who dares to allow us reviews and information 2 days before you can buy it?
I for one am glad they told us about the XT too, even if it isn't coming for about a month; imagine how ticked off everyone would be if they kept the top model a secret, totally screwing ATI fans who bought the XL expecting the best.

Can anybody speculate if the 1800 XL will be able to overclock to XT speeds? With the same number of pipes, might it be cost effective to simply drive the XL harder? Of course the clock difference is quite a large one, and the 512 VRAM already looks promising especially with new titles coming like FEAR.
I know, did I say otherwise? From AT's real time price engine, I already see it available for less than MSRP. I hope it drops well. Good for us.Originally posted by: sxr7171

Well obviously being 2 days late, itsnt going to be good enough for the NV crew. Even though they wouldnt have bought one anyways.
Just a bitter man arent you?
No, why would I be? Its the truth, and you know it. I just said the obvious. Two days after its launch its avail, and we will here how ATi "paper launched" the XL forever.
They are also in stock at newegg. But they are price gouging as usual, up $30.

It is good news that they are finally available. Way to go NVidia for putting an end to paper launches. Way to go ATI for getting the cards out so quickly (2 days late instead of 2 or more months late).
i disagree. i think 2 days after launch is quite acceptable.Originally posted by: Ackmed

their latest is with the x800 gto2s (easily modded to 16 pipes, and almost always successfull o/c to x850xt/pe speeds), which were selling for 199-219. they raised it today to $299 - a 50% increase. absolutely asinine... needless to say, i found it elsewhere for $195, and will refrain from purshasing from newegg if at all possible.
