ATi Responds To X1900XT Availability:
With online retailers showing the X1900XT for sale today and photos popping up around the web, our man Brent Justice went straight to the source (ATi) and got the low down on X1900XT availability. This is the official word:


Talked to Jennifer Barron at ATi, the embargo is still in effect and won't be lifted until the 24th. Some sites may have it for sale and in stock, but they won't actually ship them out until the 24th, at least according to ATI. She said she is going to look into it further and get back with me today. As it stands right now though the embargo is still in effect and the original target date of the 24th is still solid. If that changes they will let me know.

Your comment just says that places won't ship them out til the 24th and doesn't mean they don't have it in stock.

A number of places have been called and confirmed to have them in stock. And people have ordered the X1900XT and have had them shipped already.

The 7800GTX 512mb was sold and shipped prior to the official launch.

The OEM ones you can get from places like DELL you mean? Perhaps, but I doubt dell is supposed to sell systems with them until they are announced.

All the distributers and retailers are not supposed to sell this card yet. Some may still go ahead though.
As I said on hocp:

As for fines and legal issues with selling the card first. There's no "law" per say about distributers/resellers/retailers selling stuff early (same with books, movies, games). BUT, what happens is that if you dont follow what dates they tell you, they "fine" you. If you dont pay the "fine" then your company won't get anymore products to sell. So like if bestbuy breaks the street date for Quake 4, and they dont pay activision a fine, then activision could stop selling to bestbuy (or whoever is their distributer). And the distributer will pay down the "fine" to whoever the retailer is that broke the date. And if bestbuy doesn't have the latest greatest game next time one is released from them, then they will be hurting. Or perhaps they would get shipped the last shipment after everyone else got thiers. So usually they just pay the fine. Imagine if bestbuy didn't get many xbox 360 shipments, they would be seriously hurting. Breaking a date with something like that can have serious consequences.

The three places I saw linked in the hardocp thread already are out of stock (or perhaps they are saying that because ATI contacted them about it).

However, some people HAVE received this, so it WAS shipped out for some before the 24th

Some of the people who ordered the X1900XT yesterday from Digitally Unique, and paid for overnight shipping, have already received the card. Mine shipped yesterday via ground, they've already provided a tracking number, and it will be here next week. ATI may have asked retailers not to ship until the 24th, but apparently several of them didn't listen.
