No, they didn't drop it. You were correct to begin with, the XT is the "lower end" model at the moment. The XTX will have higher clocks than the XT.

What happened to XTPE? I liked that better than X1900XTX, just a little too Xtreme.

How is this pricing going to compare to prices at launch? I've nearly got a friend ready to do an upgrade and buy my 6800Ultra.
I'm glad the 1900 launch coincides with this! It would have sucked to get an 1800XT and have this come out a week later.
Of course I could wait for price drops on the 1800s, but this appears to be a better card in many ways.

I'm thinking that $600 going to be the MSRP and if you are lucky you can find it around $500-$550ish
