BBATI X1900XT

I am at 650 core 800 memory

Temps are 50 idle 75 loaded. For refrence, my 7800GT SLI's would run about 40 idle and 70 loaded in the same system.

Still checking for artifacts.

why is that ? Overclocking in the CCC seems to be good enough for some of the reviews. Is there a significant difference ?

You can get the ATI Tool Beta 12 over at XS. I believe it's in the Xtreme 3D section in the "Got my hands on X1900XT Crossfire" thread (or some title similiar to that). Some guy got up to 820/975 with DI over there!

Yreka- Have you had a chance to play any games on it yet? If so, how does it compare to your GTs? I just made the same switch and I'm curious to see what the difference is.

You can increase voltage with the ATI tool which makes for some killer clocks.

Aah I see.. Still learning all this ATI stuff. I am already sick of CCC, but I guess I am stuck with them until tray tools is updated. I dont plan on dickering with the voltage at all. I will most likely leave it at XTX speed and call it a day.

Anyway, I haven't played too many games yet I am still getting everything dialed in. I quickly booted Fear, and ran around a bit. It didnt seem like I lost any performance at all, but I didnt to any "before" tests either. I figured there would be enough numbers floating around by now, so I didnt bother. I did lose about 1500pts in 3dmark 06, but I dont put too much stock in that. Lastly, I jumped into EQ2 and was fairly impressed. The HQ-AF does wonders on the terrain textures, definately a noticable improvement. Also, the card is quieter than I expected. Not quiet mind you, but not as loud as I was expecting after reading the reviews and others comments. It is still slightly louder than the 2 gt's W/ arctic coolers though.

Only 2 drawbacks so far..

The software and drivers were one.. I had to jump through a few hoops to get the drivers / ccc installed. Nothing dealbreaking, but it was actually easier setting up SLI for the first time which was surprising. I am actually missing Forceware+coolbits, and even profiles a bit *might just be nostalga*

Second and most important to me.. AA is still broken in EQ2. I have a feeling both Sony and Ati are to blame here, as even with the nvidia AA was spotty at best. This is a fairly big thorn in my side. I really like AA.

I think I am gonna hold onto the GT's for another week or two and see how I adjust.

Have you installed .net 2.0 for the CCC. that is a real must if you want it to run a lot better. Also it is not so memory intensive as opposed to .net1.1
Dont feel too bad. I heard that Nvidia is coming out with its .net drivers soon.

Installed net 2.0 thanks.. Its not terrible, Im probibly just not used to it yet. Just perterbed me a little because I haven't had driver installation problems since the Windows 95 days. Driver wise, it seems like ATI makes things alot more complicated than they need to.

Dont feel too bad. I heard that Nvidia is coming out with its .net drivers soon.

According to ATI (and a lot of people on AT), the CCC doesn't work if you only have .net 2.0 installed. If you install .net 1.1 and "upgrade" to 2.0 it will work. However, the only reason for this is because .net 2.0 doesn't actually upgrade 1.1, but installs along side of it. So, the CCC is actually still running on 1.1, but you have a couple of megs of usesless 2.0 installed on your rig.

from ATI's site:

The Catalyst® Control Center requires that Microsoft's .NET Framework Version 1.1 be installed. Without .NET Version 1.1 installed the Catalyst® Control Center will not launch properly, and the user will see an error message as a result

Yreka: Being a fairly recent purchaser of an ATI card from a long line of NV cards, I can honestly say that the initial "OMG this CCC thing sucks!" shock factor wears off after a while, you begin to know where stuff is, and the CCC actually becomes quite functional.

pfft, i installed CCC on a new system yesterday, and only downloaded .net 2.0 and it works just fine.

(of course, i didn't do much but look at the options a bit before i went to ATT)

Here's the direct link to the program.

That version is a little quirky. My card(XT) arrived today and I installed on my lunchbreak.

CCC reports 620/720 for 3D, 500/600 for 2D.

ATI Tray Tools reports default of 500/600.

Ran 3dmark 05 and got just shy of 10K, probably need to check my processor OC as I think it might only be running 2.1 ATM.

Anyways, ran the CCC utility to determine max OC and.....

700/800 was the result - which blew me away

Go to run FEAR bench and the game won't load - so the CCC utility is pretty much garbage IMHO, this was my first experience with it.

Load the beta tray tools, and set the default clocks to what CCC was running and I get artifacts all over the place with the GPU at anything over 600.

Then I had to come back to work. I'll play around some more when I get home.

Ok ATi Tool did not work properly for me. Like ayabe mentioned, it is set at 500/600 and trying to OC it results in system crashes and/or major artifacts. With CCC I've managed to OC my card to the max it allows of 690/800 but I can tell the ram is getting hot since I don't have any sinks on them - gonna drop by Frys later today and buy some.

You're running water though right? Who made your card and are you running the default volts? I've got the Sapphire.

Yep default volts and using a water block. The card is BB ATi X1900XT with the 1.1ns ram.

atitool never even had a "stable" version for the x1800 series.

w1zzard was working on it forever. hopefully he'll finally work it out soon.

Can you guys combine the beta ATI Tool with the X1800 series overclocking utility out there? Maybe try overclcoking with the same X1800XT guide (if you haven't oced with the X1*** series before). I know something works from all the killer results over at XS. The ATI Tool I linked to above is what those guys are using.

Where is this guide? I'm about to get off work and start cranking her up.

Yeah CCC program autodetected (x1900xt) my speeds to be 689, 797. I ran 3dmark05 and it froze my system. I'm currently running at 655, 775 and everything is smooth but temps are a little high. Anyone know a safe load temperature for the x1900xt?

I am getting around 70-75 under full load. Backed the speed off to 650/775 for now. My max OC with CCC would run 3dmark 06 fine, but would choke when running COD2 or fear.

I don't know for sure but I would not want my card to over 85 C as an absolute upper limit.

I played around some more lastnight and am very stable with 650/790 and I think 670/800 is doable. I want to do some in-depth artifiact testing before I start pushing that though.

Butter smooth in everything I can throw at it, couldnt be happier ATM.

Most definately. Ati needs a 7800gt out there to compete in the upcoming Upper-midrange segment.

If I'm not mistaken, some of the OC utilities allowed for raising the core and memory voltages on the X1800 cards. When these utilities support the X1900 cards, you may get significantly higher overclocks by raising your voltages a little.

Is anyone familiar with the voltage tweaking on the newer ATI cards? Seems like it would be a very useful feature but I hardly ever hear anyone talk about it.
