So is this brilliant marketing? They purposely don't release the correct drivers until launch day to drop a bomb shell on nVidia? That would be sweet!!

haha that would be pretty sweet. But I'm still thinking the G71 will have very similar performance as in the last couple years each both have been very competitive.

It seems like they never have cards performing exactly the same and always have different price points too.

2 slot card? Not interested.

Why not?

Anyway, congrats OP!! Now how about firing that puppy up and give us some benchies we can wrap our minds around? Would be great if you can do so, unless ATI does not have any proper drivers available to the public yet to support this card. Do they?

good quesiton.

the driver arrives on monday. i can't post screenshots of benchies, but i'll see if i can tell you the 5 digit # in words
Thanks for the photos!! The drivers are what I am really curious about..Different people and websites are getting different results and apparently the CAT 6.1(newest) drivers do not work for these cards! Is ATI going to ship the right drivers at the last minute on a CD to review sites or upload them on their site at a certain time/date??Vr-zone's forums seem to have gotten "a lot" better results than others. I wonder what drivers they are using?...

i want to be clear on this point. x1900xt works with 6.1, but other sites DO use different drivers to get a better score on the benchies.

x1900xtx does NOT work with 6.1 (since ati has no intentions on releasing it this tuesday). Most likely it will work with the 6.2. But as of now, it will work with the driver that is coming on monday.

Where did you hear that? If the xtx is a few weeks away, then maybe there's more to it that a 25mhz increase in clockspeeds over the xt. Is there any way you can find out at what speed the gpu and mem run?

Thanks for the info. Of course that also just gave me 3-5 other questions about the whole launch(esp. the xtx version!!)! The plot thickens......

i tried 6.1 on my x1900xtx, it doesn't work.

and i was told that on tuesday, there will ONLY be xt versions.

there is however a 25 mhz increase in core and 50 mhz (i believe) in memory clcok speed. So far that's the only difference I see. However, the driver incompatibility is probably ati's way of controlling the ACTUAL release date on these things, just like somebody said earlier in this post. I doubt there are any significant differences between the xt and the xtx besides overclockability.

I would agree with that.

Some people have had X1900XT's for two days now. They say that the 5.13's support the card, but for whatever reason the 6.1's dont. No idea if thats true or not, but you may want to try those drivers.

can you at least tell us if the 6.1 drivers recognise your card? This would at least bolster our speculation that DigitalDaily's benches do not represent the true power of the card because they were only able to use an older driver set.

ATi just need a few weeks with the highest performing card . . . they are looking at fat profits.

to the OP: ATI has a collection of older drivers

nice card!

I hope Zalman's VF900 is a single slot solution, I really don't want another 2 slot card, ever again!

update: 5.13, and 6.1 does NOT even recognize the card - keep in mind this is an xtx, not an xt.

I am not sure about the xt - i have to check on monday.

Why?

becuase 2-slot solutions are not practical even for the most of us. I'm personally fine with 2-slots because i don't have much pci cards and i have a big case.

my 600 watt enermax noisetaker does a great job - my friend's ocz powerstream 520 watt does a good job also. Just make sure you have at least 28A (combined is fine) on your 12V line.

From the dailytech article: "We used the latest NVIDIA driver, but the Catalyst 6.1 driver did not detect the Radeon X1900. Thus, we used a beta driver from late December. " Hmm. Might have to modify a file in the driver installer to include the hardware?
