I was wondering if it were possible to buy an X1900XT master card and then pair it with an X1900XTX? The only difference would be the bios (I would overclock the X1900XT to XTX specs) Can that happen?

Asus A8532-MVP

How good would this mb be for it? I know its not the newest one for Xfire, but if I had a xfire setup I wouldn 't worry so much about overclocking.

Should work fine as long as you are aware that clock-speeds will be reduced to XT levels.

Really? Even if I overclock the XT to XTX specs?

I was thinking I could leave my XTX at stock, then overclock the XT to 650/775 and then put them together. Does it not allow you to do that?

You have to OC both, at the same time, otherwise the speeds will be reduces to XT speeds.

Will the fact that my XTX bios would be different from the XT bios matter? I've also been told that you can use, for instance, a Sapphire XTX and a Powercolor XT Master card in a Xfire setup. Is this true?

I don't think that's true for the 1900's. I remember reading that they will run at independent clock speeds instead of the clock being reduced on the xtx.

Okay, some are saying that Cross Fire down clock the XTX speeds to XT speeds when combined with an XT and some are saying that both run at different speeds even when combined?

Which one is it?

buy an XT anyway and OC it to XTX easily. XTX is a waste...unless you believe that XTX chips have higher overhead for OC...which could be true.

I already have an XTX. I'm just wanting to find out for sure if I put it in Cross Fire, what will happen to both of the clock freqencies on the two cards.

No it does not. Both cards run fine with different clock speeds, they work independently.

Nothing. They will work fine at different speeds.

doesn't crossfire require a crossfire edition "mastercard," so to speak? or does a crossfire mb provide a way around that?

if im not mistaken, all x1900xt/xtx cards are crossfire ready, meaning any of any can be paired and made a crossfire setup, im just wondering where do you buy the hookup for the thing, i cant find it anywhere

No, you can not pair just any X1900XT(X) with just any other X1900XT(X). One must be an X1900XT(X) and the other has to be an X1900 CrossFire edition card (master card). The hookup you speak of should come included with the CrossFire edition mastercard. If for some reason it isn't, you should be able to purchase it (the dongle) from ATI.
