Finally ATI have an uptodate graphics card for AGP systems.
The new GeCube ATI X1950 Pro AGP is on pre-order at Overclockers UK.

The price seems reasonable (for rip off Britain anyway) and doesn't seem to carry such a huge premium price tag like the 7900GS+ did.
It looks like a decent upgrade for anyone still on AGP systems.

I would imagine these will be appearing in the US soon too, unlike the Gainward 7900GS+.

It should spank it like a naughty shoolchild. The gainward is essentially a 7900GT and the X1950 Pro tends to hammer that quite nicely.

X1900 XT performance but with the advantage of much lower power consumption, cooler running and now available on AGP. A cracking card for very little money and one that packs a serious punch with superb image quality.

- Powered by ATI Radeon X1950 PRO - 575MHz (RV570 80nm)
- 256MB-256bit 8 channel GDDR3 memory - 1.38GHz
- 36 Pixel shader processor
- Ultra-threaded SM 3.0 Engine
- 512-bit Ring-bus
- HDCP Ready!!
- Low power consumption (Consumes 60W less than equivalent X1900 XT)

Arriving end of November 2006

Price: £159.99 (£187.99 Including VAT at 17.5%)

isn't that like $200!
:Q

time to toss that x850xt

and build my new rig next year . . .

At todays rates its more like $351
However, prices in 'rip off Britain' are always higher than what you pay in the US, so I doubt it would be as much as that.

but because we live in the states, it's more like $297 as we don't have to pay VAT.

Heh how ironic that I was one of those people telling AHP users to shut their pie hole about high end graphics cards and now Ill be getting one myself

Money is tight, I wanted to build a core 2 machine with a DX10 card this winter. But honestly have no idea where I will find the money. For 200-300 bones, this thing will extend the life of my current rig at least another 12 months.

i love irony

edit

ok . . . $290 in the UK at today's coversion rates . . . the US should be $250-$299 and competion will drop it . . .
. . . and i will upgrade if it's only ~$200
[right away]

that x1950p should be considerably faster than my x850xt AND will support HDCP and SM3.0 . . . i should be able to get ~$100 for my current card.

cheap upgrade indeed!

The UK price of 159 pounds works out to $340 cnd dollars; a fairly big chunk of change.

I hope they come in at more reasonable prices, here, in Canada or I'll be waiting, again, for months longer.

i still have 3 gaming pc's which would benefit greatly from this AGP card...

and despite having a pcie on my main rig, it doesn't convince me to want to upgrade 3 more pc's as my pcie doesn't offer any real performance advantages over my agp, except the option of running SLI. other than that, the only real advantage of upgrading to pci-e is the high price and lack of availability of decent agp cards.

if you're upgrading the mainboard anyway, then sure.. go pci-e, but there's still alot of life left with high end agp motherboards if one can find a decent value in an agp video card.

i say bring on the 1950pro AGP!

Free medicare of a sort, lol. Yeah, we pay over the odds here for sure, but the price of the x1950 AGP is reasonable imo. It'll probably drop further too in time.

There's nothing undignified about this card tbh.
There's still no real noticable performance hit between AGP 8x and PCI-E x16 yet, so it looks a quality upgrade to me.

It'll probably be the last of the AGP cards, but kudos to ATI/GeCube for releasing it.

My question is what's the deal with that horrific looking cooler on the GeCube 1950 Pro PCI-Express?!

I wonder how much you pay for the lumps of crap that most people take off anyway..

Ohwell, I will buy two. ATi slut that I am

Well, I'm astonished. I really didn;t think they were gonna make an AGP version.

I admit it, I was wrong. (although that's not a Diamond card though is it )

Since when and where? Sure your not thinking of a 7900GS pci e core?

Seems to have the same specs,
Pci-e version
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814195029

Agp version (2nd one down)

Interesting...there might be life yet for my AGP rig. I currently have a 7800GS but its lack of shaders and pipelines compared to the PCI-E make it barely faster than the PCI-E 6800U and considerably inferior to the 7800GT and GTX PCI-E offerings.
