I can't find a benchmark comparison between this and my ATI 256mb 9800pro anywhere.

Are the cards so different that they don't compare? Or am I just Google impaired?

Or that your card was released in 2003 and is very slow today with most optimistic outlook.

By very slow in comparison, you mean...?

Anyone have actual benchmark numbers? I'm looking for data, not just the heresay of folks bumping up their daily post quota

I think I found the comparison, for anyone who is interestd:

On 3DMark 2005

Ati 9800pro 256mb - 2590

VisionTek x1950pro 256mb - 4359

Not quite twice as fast, but pretty close.

That cooler on the Powercolor card is FUBAR'd...who decided to make a HSF that blows directly onto the motherboard and the PCI-e slot? There's no way the hot air is going to get circulated around enough. Nice work designers!

Haha, that is X1950Pro's 3DMark 2006 score... for 2005 score, look at 8000+.

If you read the NewEgg user reviews of the PCI-E version they say it raised their mobo-temps 5-10c., but the graphics card stays nice and cool. Yes indeedy a brilliant design.

I'm gonna buy a video card for my AGP system (my 6600GT died a few months ago), and I'm deciding between this and a 7800GS.
Obviously the X1950 is better, but it is also more expensive and there's a problem:
It asks fora 450W power supply with 30A on 12V... mine has 420W, with 26A on the 12V..
If I have to buy a new PSU as well, it will be too expensive and I probably will get a 7800GS..

Is the 7800GS much worse than this? I play at 1024x768 resolution (I can play at 1280, but then the refresh rate drops to 60Hz and I get flickering. Then again, games are not as bright as the desktop, so I may be able to cope with flickering..)

At 1024x768 there might not be that big a difference between the 7800GS and the X1950Pro as I would think many titles may be CPU bound - but this is speculation on my part. In certain titles such as Company of Heroes you may see more of a difference.

I have a BFG 7800GS OC that recently began making a terrible buzzing noise from one of the capacitors on the card. I called BFG tech support (great service btw) and they told me to immediately shut down the machine as they were worried something go blow. The gave me an RMA # (lifetime warranty) and I sent the card back. In the meantime I went ahead and ordered a x1950 Pro. Once I get a new 7800GS back from BFG I will likely put it up on Ebay. I run at 1920x1200 and 1680x1050 for many games, so I expect the x1950 Pro to give a nice performance boost.

Yeah, it requires a standard 4pin molex power connection (same type that non-sata drives use). Every card I've owned for the past 4 years has required its own power connection.

If you look at the pics on Newegg you can see it.

the x850xt is more than twice as fast as the 9800p ... the x1950p would be [more than] 3 times faster [more-or-less] than the 9800p

and try 8,000 for 3DMark05 and x1950p

yes, sadly the 9800p is becoming the *minimum* for todays PC games
:Q

not so sadly

Vivo is Video In/Video Out. Pretty useless for me, but some people may want it.

About my previous post, does anyone think that my 420W PSU with 26A on the 12V rail can handle the X1950 Pro?

450-Watt power supply or greater, 30 Amps on 12 volt rail recommended (assumes fully loaded system).

I recommend to change PSU.
Which card are you going to buy: 512mb or 215mb ?

LOL @ price $299, that is a strong demand and weak supply.

geez what a screw-up from ATI and nvidia. I bet they figured now how much they have lost by not providing AGP high end cards in last yr.

Yeah..but any "new technology" typically is released at MFG suggested price. Within a month or so, the price drops or MIR's mysteriously start appearing...

This discussion has been going on for quite a long time, so in the end which card (Diamond, Powercolor, Sapphire, etc.) seems to be the best card of them all?
(I'm talking about power, not price)

They are all the same graphic chip regardless of the brand. The purpose of various brands for each to sell in specific regions and offer a variant of warranties. It really doesn't matter which brand you go with because all of the cards will perform the same as long as the specifications mirror each other.

identical performance -except for the o/c'd ones.

who knows, it's a cheap chip to manufacture ... i am hoping for deep discounts and/or *bundles* when the partners compete.

my x850xt is doing 'fine' in all my current game so it wasn't hard to downgrade from my VisionTek x1950p and just wait for a better deal.

i feel your pain if you need a card now.

How's it going Zoozilla, I'm going to echo what the other have said. They're all using the same GPU and basic reference design. What differences there are seem to be in the cooler design. Powercolor's is huge and may raise your motherboard temps and the rest so far are using pretty much the stock cooler. I think the X1950 Pro with the most potential is one we haven't seen yet...the HIS X1950 Pro. They're the only ones using a Dual-Slot Cooler which exhausts the air outside of the case, but of course you'll have to pay extra for that fancy cooler. As far as the existing X1950 Pro's go, I think the Sapphire X1950 Pro 512MB is the best bang for the buck card at the moment and people are also having some success overclocking the card as well. Of course I may be biased, since I own that one.
