I recommend to change PSU.
Which card are you going to buy: 512mb or 215mb ?
Probably 256mb powercolor.
Anyway, if I have to buy a new PSU as well it will be too expensive.. I'll probably go for the 7800GS then..

you missed it

i HAD the card ... for 3 weeks ... no loud fan ... doesn't run at 100% ... just too expensive
[and temp monitoring will likely come with a driver update ... i think it has the sensor]

AND even the x1950p/512mb prices at Allstar is dropping - while it is on preorder ... from $279 down to $249

prices are heading in the right direction [down] and supplies are looking up [eta 1/07 at Allstar]

apoppin, You have X800 series that are even louder so you don't notice... I played with BIOS, some low-level tools, some ATi tray tools, etc.; and I know for sure that fan speed can't be changed.

i DID notice that the VisionTek x1950p/256MB was quieter than my x850xt.

maybe yours was defective ... mine had levels of fan speed ... from 'jet takeoff' to 'whisper'

Probably mine was defective then, or whole 1st batch was like that. Others have observed same loud behavior as me (few posts on rage3D).

A lot more than that! ,he has the X800GT which only has 8 pixel pipes vs 16 of the XTs
Assuming the 1950 is ~50% faster than an X850XT ,then it would probably be in the area of 100%+ faster ,that's a rough estimate of course
Only 8 pixel pipes?? :Q

Yep, Look at the GPU database here

klingsor

If you want hard numbers then go to THGs VGA tables ,though you'll have to flip between tables.
I've recently upgraded from a 9700 Pro (your 9800 Pro is about 10-15% faster) to an X800XT PE ,this roughly more than doubled (~120% )my frame rates (where it wasn't CPU limited anyway) ,& going by various benchmarks the 1950 is about 50% faster than the XTs (the 850 versions were only about 5% faster than the 800s btw).

So you should be better off by about 170% with a 1950 Pro (excluding CPU limited resolutions) ,roughly speaking of course.

[edit]opps just seen that apoppin has already answered you ,oh well at least our figures roughly tally

Btw you guys in the USA , does ebuyer no longer have a branch at your side of the pond?
Ebuyer UK supposedly still have 14 in stock

First, you must understand: I've only had this computer for a short time, and got it as a refurbished product off of Dell. Even with that info in mind, I must be one of the stupidest people in galaxy. Looking at the database Assimilator provided, I found nothing for the X800GT for AGP. I found out this didn't exist. I rechecked my system specs (which I am SURE said AGP) I found I have a PCI-e slot.
:Q
:Q
:Q

Laugh at me if you want. Heck, I'm laughing at myself! Of all the stupid things.......... I thought the reason the comp was so cheap was because it was AGP! But....I guess this is good news, right?

sure ... means your video card will be cheaper and that you have more options.

that said ... if it is a dog-slow CPU [say a 2.4Ghz (un o/c'able) Pentium 4] you're still outta luck and need to upgrade more than your video card.

and ha ha
[it always pays to know what's in your rig]

I am always a lil spooked by double the graphics memory, this thing have slower memory or a gimped memory bus compared to the 256mb?

Nope, I have one. The same basic reference specs as every other manufacturer ...see link for description

Try EBay. I did really well and sold my X850XT-PE on Ebay for $202.50, which brought the cost of the Sapphire down to $47.50 for me.

Just ordered mine. I bet they'll get out of stock pretty fast.

So, what's the going rate for a 6800U?

Does anyone know if the Thermalright coolers work with the AGP versions?
