Any of you thinking of putting this thing on any P4 lower than like 3.2 ghz will be in for a cpu bottleneck shock!

I think S939 or S754 users maybe be the suggested platform for this card to avoid bottlenecking. We'll have to wait for the reviews to find out tho.

Also from what i've seen they say the AGP version will be clocked slightly higher than the PCI E version.

600 core vs 575. not sure about the memory speed yet tho.

i'm gonna be sticking it in a 939 amd 64 3000+ rig. should be good right? I might OC also, as i have been running my 3000+ stock right now

Should be fine. Overclocking that puppy to about 2.3-2.4Ghz won't do any harm though.

I have an AMD XP3200, overclocked to 2.3ghrz, with a gig of ram on a Nforce2 motherboard, an Asus A7N8X-DX. Would this card, the 1950pro, be overkill for my system? If so, what would be a better choice?

I've played with the idea of building a new rig, but I'm just not sure this is the best time to do it, with all the changes on the horizon. Also, I'm actually quite satisfied with it's current level of performance ... well, more speed is always welcomed. The truth is, I recently purchased an LG L203WT, 20.1 inch, lcd, wide screen display and I'd like to get the best from it. I'm currently using a 9600Pro.

Any and all info appreciated.

thanks,

John

surely you are exaggerating the bottleneck
:Q

the x1900p isn't that powerful and the P4 isn't that weak

and a 3.2Ghz P4 is more-or-less equal to an A64 3000+ - in gaming. . . . mildly O/C that P4 and it will be close to a stock A64 3200+

Some AGP versions are clocked higher by some partners than others

I might be exaggerating the bottleneck but only slightly. The X1950Pro is that powerful, its slighty faster than a X1800XT.

"Great! do you guys think upgrading my x800xtpe to an X1950 pro would be give me a nice fps increase in games like bf2142.. i have an amd 3500+, or does anyone have a link with a benchmark comparing x800xt with newer video card..

thx!!"

I am in exactly the same boat as this guy, contemplating in building a core duo/ pci-express rig but this AGP solution may extend my rigs gaming life another year at least.

If its around 200$ its a done deal.

its a tough choice, this card should give u alteast an extra year on your S939 board.

Which will also mean a year from now you'll be able to look at Vista, and all the new hardware out then.

Why go C2D now when a year from now u can get whatever quad or dual is out and a midrange videocard that should be as powerful as a X1950XTX but DX 10.

hmmm......

Any scuttlebutt on competition? It would be nice if the dormant pixel unit on the G73 was enabled -perhaps coinciding with the -B1 revision (80nm) to at least plant something betwixt the X1650XT and X1950Pro. Reportedly the 7650 designation is already planned for an OEM model with HDMI & HDCP (G73-H-B1) but perhaps that is more likely be a passively cooled equivalent to the current GS. Maybe the smaller process will allow for a frequency boost and thus both faster 7650GS and 7650GT models. We really need a 256-bit competitor as well though (7900GS or whatever). Long live AGP!

Yer right, it would prolly take a 7950GT to match the 1950Pro with equivalent IQ.

I?ll want to see some more benchmarks from some different sites to be sure. VR-Zone has an excellent review of the PCIe card itself, but they only tested 3 games at one resolution each, with the 7900GT winning two handily and almost tying the third.
http://www.vr-zone.com/?i=4190

OCWorkbench tested many games, with the 7900GT winning everything comfortably at 1600×1200 with no AA/AF.
http://www.ocworkbench.com/2006/asus/EAX1950PRO/g3b.htm

Tom's Hardware doesn?t have any benchmarks but they discuss performance, saying the 7800GS+ and X1950 Pro are evenly matched.
http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/10/31/..._video_cards_for_your_money/page5.html

Even if it merely beats a 7900GS, it still represents very good value for a silently cooled card at its price point.

I'm interested in upgrading my video card with this when it comes out, but i want to make sure my system won't bottleneck it before i waste my money. I currently have a BFG 6800GT OC (that's not overclocked) and it really doesn't cut the mustard anymore for the newer games. If anyone can tell me with any kind of certainty if my system can handle it I would greatly appreciate it.

My system:
Don't laugh...

HP Pavillion a566n
MB - ASUS P4SD-LA
Chipset - 865G (Socket 478)
CPU - P4 3.0ghz, 800mhz FSB
RAM - 2GB PC3200
HDD - 200 GB Ultra DMA, 7200rpm
Sound - SB Audigy 4

Thanks Much,
Big Roy

sorry

what resolution do you game at?

i have a 2.80c @3.31 Ghz and expect to buy an x1950p.

generally you can crank the resolution, details and/or the AA/AF to offload more work to your videocard thus eliminating the "bottleneck"

i expect the x1950p to be around 1/3rd to 50% faster than your [and mine --x850xt] current card ... probably worth it.

Wish xtx came in AGP.

Hahahaha.... yea that is what I have.

Anyway. We gotta wait till this thing comes out b4 we know what a bottleneck we face. The 7800GS was handicaped so hopefully this won't be.

since i have a 19" FP I try to use 1280x1024. But in most new games I can't turn up my gfx to high nor can i enable any AA/AF without severe performance loss.

My hope is that if i installed a x1950 that i would be able to crank those settings up.

probably

i'm hoping for the same thing -- although i usually game at 11x8 [as high as 12x9, as low as 10x7 --19" CRT]

expect a noticeable upgrade . . . but probably nothing like 'double' performance . . . i am hoping for +50% but will likely settle for +33%

I'd imagine around the same time as in the UK.

Powercolor and GeCube seem to be releasing AGP versions, and they're both available in the US, right?

I'm expecting X4 performace.

9600XT -> X1950PRO.
Anyone notice the PSU reqs?
Personally I think the 30A on the 12V rail thing is overblown. If the 8800GTX needs that much the X1950PRO should need about 1/2 that.
