Hardly dead end Poppy. How many times I got to show y'all the benchmarks of a celeron hanging with FX's at high res high details before it sinks in that any processor sold the last three years will keep you over 60FPS, with the right GFX card of course which is everything.

only for FEAR ... try that with another game

and at higher resolution then 10x7
:frown:

edit: it will only get 'wors'e next year ... it won't be long before "dual core" will be the *recommended spec* for games.

one thing ppl tend to forget when they tell u to just upgrade to a PCI-E config is that u need to change AT LEAST 4 things for it to be really worth it. ur GFX card, CPU, Mobo, and in most cases RAM as well. some ppl may even need to get new SATA harddrives. or PSUs. it never ends up being cheap. granted my system is no where near cheap but i built it a bit at a time cause my funds tend to trickle in.

what kind of upgrade would you recommend that would give me *better Bang-for-buck* for a NW P4@3.2Ghz/1GBPC3500/x850xt ... for $150 ...

No problem.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813186048 $74

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102061 $170

totalling out at $245, less than you paid.

But wait there more. Instead of only getting $100 for your card you'd get that *and* about $50-$80 for your mobo depending on make and model. Now take mom to dinner at Outback or something with the money I saved you..

Not done yet because you're not shackled to whatever agp card ATI is kind enough to trickle out either next time and can choose from literally tens of high performing PCIe cards out there..

So he has to buy a new 775 cpu as well, lol.

Real value for money!

You're digging yourself into a hole here.

Hardly

I said 478 ddr users are exempt since he responded made it sound like he had 775.

However there were some 478 PCie boards like Albatron 915P4C Pro with PCIe but you cant get them anymore NIB

the problem with the Albatron is that is doesn't O/C ... i would be stuck with a slow 2.80c instead of a reasonable 3.2Ghz

it's OK ... i should be getting 4 years out of my system before i upgrade to a completely new rig [dual or Quad core/DDR3/PCie2/BluRay or HDdvd/xfire and dual monitors] ... which would be really expensive now. Until then, i believe my rig will have satisfactory gaming for another year.

Cheap *effortless* $150 upgrade for *another year*

bad news to report again im afraid. Call of Duty 2 artifacts like crazy. no crashes but i get the blinking artifacting triangles popping all over the place the entire time i play. i gave reducing graphics a go by changing the rendering mode to DiretX 7 rather than 9 but it only lasts awhile before the triangles return though not as many. this is quite disappointing. im really hoping its not my psu. cause with 18A on one rail and 20A on another itll cost a pretty penny to replace this one that i have right now.

My Sapphire has been working properly on two systems, one intel and one AMD64 based.

"Upgraded" P4 3.2GHz HT to A64 3200+ 2.2GHz... and 3DMark2005 score jumped from 6850 to 8580...

so the IC7 failed completely?

and you had to get another AGP system ...
i am afraid of this happening to my system

at least you can easily o/c that A64-3200 [unlike that p4] ... VantheMan got his to an A64-3800+
[you will probably be looking at well over 9k]

Nah, it didn't crap out completely, just I couldn't do RAID0 anymore, plus I bought Raptor 74 and motherboard wouldn't recognize it; and I had Socket 754 mobo from before... A64-3200 was $55 on sale, so I couldn't go wrong.

no overheating. idles at 48C doesnt go above 70 during games. i tried uninstalling the 7.1 omegas and installing the ati 6.12 catalysts but it didnt help. then a thought came to me. my 7800gs did a similar thing with AGP fastwrites ON. but once i disabled them the card ran perfectly fine and overclocked like hell. so i attempted to disable fastwrites again through ati smartgart(in the display properties). it asks for a resart and i do that but when it restarts the faastwrites are still ON! so it wont let me disable them. any ideas?

for $55 you got a very nice upgrade ...

i guess i shouldn't worry about my MB or CPU ... AGP parts are cheap --except for the GPU

>>>600W Ultra X-finity PSU <<<

I have no faith at all in these... :disgust:

Check out this link...

Hard Forum PSU "DON'T BUY" List:

If you're looking for a Good Quality PSU I would suggest one of the Fortrons (FSP). They are generaly "Underated" meaning they are usually "Better" than they claim.

This is the Fortron that I use:

50 bucks + shipping. Dual +12V rails @18 amps each (29 amps combined max).

As was stated it could also be a heat problem... If you haven't already, Download RIVA TUNER v2.0 and adjust your fan "Duty Cycle" up to at least 75% or more (They are default at only 40%)...

It will be loud but run much cooler...

Hope something here helps...

well reinstalled the omegas 7.1 and disabled fastwrites through the setup this time. but it made no difference. looks like either an RMA or PSU issue. and considering my cpu is a power montser it may just as well be the psu. also the fans not an issue i adjusted my fan via ATItool. it fluxes between 50% and 95% depending on whether im playing a game or not. hence the card not going over 70C.

Why not get or borrow a multimeter & check the PSU voltages whilst your running a game?
That way your not guessing about which component is causing problems.

i know

B&W2 was incredibly buggy *unpatched* ... the patches made it completely playable ... and quite a good game, i might add

since BotG is UNpatched, don't use it as a *test* or benchmark for anything

i really liked it and even played thru the X-pansion a couple of times ... despited it's horrible 'issues' [it gets really 'fun' when you *start* with a *Volcano*]

the *reboot* problem is a sudden and random "shutdown" ... ithe x1950ps with this problem will not reboot until it is *cold* ... i doubt it's your issue but here goes:

http://www.sapphiretech.com/en/forums/showthread.php?t=10167

since my case is *closed* she can look like a cheap brightly-dressed 2-bit hooke ...

well, who cares what goes on inside or how she *looks*
:Q

lol

I believe the reboot issue is the inability to immediatly reboot after restarting windows or hitting the reset button.

i dont think i know anyone who has a multimeter lying around lol. im in a college town. as far as the rebooting issue goes. now that u mention it at one point after i unistalled the omegas initially and the system reboot the system would freeze right after ATItool loaded and attempted to automatically change the fan settings. when i would reboot the card would not initialize and the monitor would say to check the cables and video source. after awhile it would boot up eventually i just disabled ATItool via safe mode(once i figured out that it was causing the problem). and i never faced the problem again since then. also ATItool loads fine at startup as long as i have card drivers installed. i think i might give the PSU issue a try and just to make sure i dont mess up ill get an Antec one. i was looking at the 550W trio one with 3 +12V rails at 18A each. what u guys think? it comes up to $107 including shipping. i should be able to make up $60 for the PSU i currently have or i could just RMA the PSU if it doesnt help and lose $25.

What about a real game benchmark?

It seems that A64 is few frames better in COD2, Medieval II. Not really noticeable.

Here is my supply Athena Power AP-P4ATX50F12 ATX12V 500W Power Supply

Sorry, Don't know much about Athena's and really can't find much information on them except for their very own poorly done website. You will likely need a new PSU. Let us know how it works.

Damn. At this point I may as well hold off and buy a PCI-e rig instead of doing all this upgrading to a dead platform for one last video upgrade. Oh well thems the breaks.

Thanks for the info.

what i really dont get is how does FEAR work perfectly fine(so does NFS:MW, Serious Sam 2, B&W2, Hitman: Blood Money, Far Cry, Company of Heroes) but COD2 and B&W2 battle of the Gods dont.

If you want to stay with Antec, I think the NeoHE 550w is a better choice for $109. It's also appears on ATI's site as Crossfire Ready for the X1950 pro, so it has enough juice for 2, let alone 1.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817103941

Also this Enermax is a fine choice also for $109 / 22a per +12v rail (2)

Yes, I have that PSU and it works just fine. It is on Crossfire recommended list.
