before you spend a lot of money -- uninstall CoD2 and reinstall it {using the same Optical drive if you are using CDs}, make sure you have the latest stable patch [with no mods] and try again

I just bought this card . Be here tomorrow. I got the 256 mb memory as the 512 is $50 more. Be careful if you buy this as it doesn't come with the 6 socket plug in adapter.

I hope it makes me happy. So I can hold out till Yorkfield/ Wolfdale comes out . Than hopefully . the updated R600 will be out on 65nm. Its factory O/C gpu anf memory.

6800gt
1.5 gig 3200

if i get the card...
think ill have that bad of a bottleneck?

right now id estimate about 40% performance increase
anyone want to give a better estimate?

Can't you overclock the P4 for more power?
If you benchmark at a low res does your current setup run fast enough?

Yeah, for newer games it is going to bottleneck, and you are buying to play those.
40% improvement makes sense, for newer games that utilize DirectX 9. My FPS almost doubled in Call of Duty 2, and I play at 1600x1200 max textures DX9 mode. I've downclocked my 3.2GHz P4 CPU to 1.6GHz for bottleneck test, and FPS almost halved.

I'm assuming you're referring to the HIS which has a PCI-E connector on the card? If your Power Supply is 4-pin Molex only you will need to buy a PCI-E/Molex Adapter as the HIS does not come with one. The secondary problem is that some people are reporting that the PCI-E Connector on the Adapter they just bought is to long to fit on the HIS card and they have to cut down the end of the PCI-E/Molex Adapter so it can make adequate contact with the card's PCI-E Connector.

uh-uh ... no

if you drop your 3.2Ghz P4 to 1.6Ghz you have also crippled your FSB ... His P4 would be running at 800FSB while yours would be ... completely botlenecked .

At 2.8 Ghz and *stock* ... it is below *recommended* for many games but well above *minimum*

Finally, IF he doesn't have an Intel MB, he CAN get MUCH much better performance with a simple mild-moderate O/C ... i usually run my 2.80c at 3.2Ghz --with no voltage increase whatsoever ... the higher FSB than Stock makes it pretty near the performance of a stock A64 3200 ... and 'fine' for today's games

Well, just bit the bullet and bought the x1950 Pro AGP 512mb Sapphire from ZZF. If I am going to play Vanguard, I am going to need it, my 6800 GT will not cut it at 1600x1200. This will be my first non-nvidia video card purchase since my voodoo5.

Yep, that's exactly what I choose, for a 1.99 you can't beat it. I'm not sure if they ship on
Saturdays, I think they do, only from hub to hub but not to your house.

It would be a nice surprise to see it Monday afternoon showing up at the door step though....

I don't know but I heard on the PC gamer Podcast that there aren't any Vista drivers as of yesterday for the 8800. Not sure if that's resolved yet.
