I installed my Diamond X1950PRO 512 today. Hooked up both molexs and ran some tests.

3DM03 jumped to 14700 from 4500 with my 9600XT
3DM05 jumped to 7200 from 2200
3Dm06 crashed at the first SM3.0 test

Voltage on my PSU was good when it crashed. My digital mulitimeter showed a drop of .05V from 12.02 to 11.97 volts when the test started.

I later down loaded ATI Tool and checked the temps. It crashed during the artifact scan at 70C. I did not see anything in 3Dmark however.
I upped the fan speed to 100% and that prevented it from crashing but I got lots of artifacts. It then crashed when I aborted out.

The rate at which the temps climb makes me think the cooler is not seated well on the GPU.

Any thoughts at what else I might try?

The card was gift and bought through Amazon.

I guess it's a powwer supply, you have Coolmax Tarus 400W which is below req's.
Req's: 450w PSU with single rail over 30A, dual -20A each.

Actually it's not the PSU. My rig link is out of date.

My current PSU is an Enermax Liberty 500W model with 32A max across 2 12V rails which can supply upto 22A individually.

The voltage only sagged to 11.96V at the time of the crash. So it was not the PSU.

Thanks to all those that have been keeping all of us lurkers informed on this very interesting subject.
Have another look at your PSU specs, it should have 26A on a single +12V rail, which is not too shabby by some of the standards here.
http://www.antec.com/specs/true430_spe.html

I?m also keen on the PowerColor card, and I have an Antec SmartPower 2.0 450W with 15+17=32A on +12V.
http://www.antec.com/specs/SP450_spe.html

I?m reasonably confident the X1950 Pro will work with this PSU, but I have some doubts after reading so many posts about problems over the past few months. There?s a lot of confusion about whether it?s the PSU or the particular card is overheating.

How can it be the PSU when his 12v line checks out ok? (& with a multimeter too)
Maybe his rig sig is out of date as it shows 9600XT?

[edit]I've just seen he says it is

Thanks Assimilator
I think someone has been using his 'Jump to Conclusion Mat'

Do you know how to down clock the X1950PRO?

ATI Tool v26 says it doesn't work with the X1950PRO.

atitool works as long as ur not using the 7.1 catalysts. actually even then u should be able to underclock with it.

How many AMP's have your PSU on dual rails and how works SAPPHIRE?

My 430 is over 3 years old..it does say that it will supply 20A on the 12V single rail. My Powercolor X1950PRO is presently running on this PSU..the 12V rail dropped only .02 v from the level it was at when my 6800GT was installed. I will of course monitor my vid card very closely for the first few days of operation..heh..just in case. NOW..this is my first ATI card in quite some time..any hints from any veteran users on what I should be setting the card at..ect. Any positive responces will be appreciated.

I use a Antec TPII550 PSU with my Sapphire X1950Pro 512mb...it only has 19a on both of it's 12v rails...I haven't had a single problem yet.

I second that. Of course, some CPUs take too much power, it is not same if you use last-gen Sempron on 1.6GHz and P4EE Prescott

minimal warning ... doubt it was the PS

I had a read of your thread...bummer about the X1950Pro.

If you do decide to go the 7800GS route then a BFG is a good choice, most of the newer 7800GS's now use the G71 core and can overclock like a demon.

I was able to get my BFG 7800GC OS upto 550mhz core and 1350mhz memory, performance wise it was right in between a 7900GS and a 7900GT....

It's pretty easy to pick the G71 BFG 7800GS's from the older G70 models....they have a different HSF unit, the older ones use a HSF that resemble the reference design and has a fluorescent green fan on it. The newer ones have a huge Copper HSF unit with a clear fan that has a blue LED on it.

G71 core is avaiable just in Europe or now in America (US-Canada) too ?
Did someone buy thise kind of card from NewEgg ?

I purchased my 7800GS from the US so I guess they must be availible in the US...I couldn't see why BFG would use the G71 in Europe and use the older G70 in the US for the exact same card....makes no sense.

After 2 days of operation and gameing..my Powercolor X1950 Pro AGP is doing the job nicely. No problems what so ever. My 3 year old Antec 430 Truepower PSU is still hanging in there, with 20 amps on the single 12v rail..go figger. I ask you..do the Chinese techs know how to measure amps or not, maybe they didn't calibrate their clip-on ammeter correctly. hee. Happy camper here.

SickBeast..About your Enermax 350 watt PSU running this card..to be honest..I have no idea if it will do the job. There are lots of factors that come into play when one puts stress on a PSU. My gut feeling is..that this PSU will crowbar on the 12v rail if you are running other components requireing it. Now if you like to live on the edge..and have the resources to go into a new system, or at least purchase a more powerful PSU that will of course run your NEXT anticipated computer build..then go for it. Let us know your decision, because many other guys/gals are watching this thread and are trying to determine if they should take the plunge or not..and if so..what is the best course of action for them.

For your information..I made my decision to do this on my own after reading on many forums that were talking up this vid card. My over 50 years of experience in electronics and over 30 years in computers led me to the conclusion that this upgrade on MY system was iffy at best. I have the resources to recover if this venture failed..and at my age..I like to let em all hang out if you get my drift here. hee

Why don't you read up the PSUs specs from the Enermax site & the requirments for 1950 from this thread?

Apoppin
Gutted about the 1950
So why did you buy another card when your going to RMA the 1950? (couldn't be bothered to read your huge thread)

RMA is gonna take at least a month thru Sapphire

i am contesting their *RMA processing Fee* as a form of extortion

and i will sell the x1950p IF i ever get it back

my 7800gs is a good match for my rig and *suffiecient* for me ... plenty cheap too ... $160 after MIR [8000 3DMark05 pro vs. 6500 for my GS]

so i only take a loss on the Sapphire

actually, if you skip the flames ... my thread is quite short

Comes with a TEC cooler and is factory overclocked.
DOn't really see the point though.

Wow! So the rumours have come true! :Q
The cooler looks mad!

It will be interesting to see the pricing on it.

TBH, though I'm happy with my HIS X1950 Pro for now.

It was worth paying the little bit extra for.
The HIS IceQ card is quality and hasn't let me down yet.

I wonder if Nvidia will get their heads out of their asses and release a new high end AGP card (AGP 7950GX2 anyone )?
