the 7950gx2 was horrible and inefficient. a 7900gt would be awesome. but a 7900gtx would be better. i wonder if any dx10 AGP cards will ever be released.(not that i plan on switching to vista anytime soon)

interesting. i guess it was just shody work by sapphire that made their card impossible to run right lol. im so glad i switched to my HIS. if it does consume so little power that would mean i might have room for the x1950xt lol(not that id consider switching to that with my already limited funds.)

PLEASE READ!!!!
I ordered a Diamond x1950 pro 512 mb. After installing I was getting blue screens for a few days, then decided to try out the 93.71 Omega drivers. They fixed the blue screens, but a few days later I started getting graphical glitches on my screen and had to reboot every time (these glitches occured randomly, usually once every 2 or 3 days and only while playing WoW) . Im guessing this was my videocard cooking itself, even though ati tray tool said it was at 53c. The inside of my case was hotter then normal and my room was way hotter
Yesterday the video card crashed while playing wow and my video card was dead. GG.
This video card is SMOKIN FAST when it works. I was running wow on 1280 1024 all settings maxed 6xaa 16xaf! usually hitting over 100 fps! My other games were the same, simply amazing graphics. It basically made my Gainward 6800GT Golden Sample @ultra speeds, look like a school girl!
But sadly mine died at 38 days and the return policy with newegg is 30 days for money back, and 1 year for a replacement.
SO, after all of that im going to RMA this card and see if i have better luck with the next card.

My psu is a ultra xconnect 500 watt psu, I know this isn' the "best" psu, but I highly doubt it was the route of my problem.

PS I went to bestbuy today and bought a 7800GSOC as a replacement till my 1950 is rma'd. It felt quite a bit slower and isnt hitting anywhere near the frames the 1950 pro did.

Well, it could be because the HIS IceQ uses a good quality cooling solution and also quality ramsinks too, that means they have less problems.

The Sapphire is just cheap and nasty.

It reminds me of the Nvidia 7900GT debacle where certain manufacturers used low quality components which resulted in a very high failure rate.

diamond and sapphire use the exact same cooling solution. i have a feeling it really is the cooling cause under full load my HIS card never goes above 54C and it idles at 38C. whereas my sapphire one idled at 48C and went up to 68C. i think all these complaints about psus r looking at the problem the wrong way.

Gutted about the 1950
So why did you buy another card when your going to RMA the 1950? (couldn't be bothered to read your huge thread)
RMA is gonna take at least a month thru Sapphire

i am contesting their *RMA processing Fee* as a form of extortion
and i will sell the x1950p IF i ever get it back

my 7800gs is a good match for my rig and *suffiecient* for me ... plenty cheap too ... $160 after MIR [8000 3DMark05 pro vs. 6500 for my GS]

so i only take a loss on the Sapphire

actually, if you skip the flames ... my thread is quite short
lol ,& fair enough

How would it of cooked itself if it was running at 53C? (or was that idle temps?)

I bought a sapphire x1950pro 512mb agpcard and returned it 28 days later for a replacement. I had enough of the soft-reboot issues and random graphical issues when playing games [WoWcrackaddict]. When the card works - it does freakin scream...

However, about a week earlier, when I learned that nVidia refused to support nforce2/3 chipset for Vista, I figured it was time to take the plunge and upgrade to PCI-Express solution [which was my original plan. I should've not feared as Windows XP had no problems adapting to a new hardware configuration]

Once the X1950pro agp is returned to me - it [along with an Accelero X2 cooler] go up for sale on ebay...

On that note, I wonder why I bought a new P.S. with PCI-Express adapters when the X1950pro card I have uses 4pin variety...

Well since the topic of this thread is the AGP X1950PRO I'll actually post something on topic

My replacement Diamond X1950PRO arrived courtesy of Amazon and I'm glad to report that it actually works!

I was able to complete 3Dm06 with no issues. Temps topped out around 78C - the fan never seemed to spin up any faster.
Score was 4154 with my P4 3.2 and X1950 PRO 580/1400 at stock with supplied drivers.

The interesting thing is the packaging was slightly different from my first one. The new card was missing the extra software CD and the Diamond software version on the driver CD was 7.6 instead of 7.1.

And just for you Appopin - Amazon was pretty good about the RMA as they covered the ship to as well as ship back costs. The only issue was they would only ship it to the original delivery address which was my folks at this was a gift. So they had to ship it again back to me.

Diamonds RMA policy, however, is only slightly better than Sapphire when it comes to fees. It has a 1 year warranty and if I send it in after 90 days I have to include $9 to cover the costs of shipping it BACK TO ME. :disgust:

thanks for your impressions Paratus

what is its 05 score?

and i wonder if all of ATi's partners are gonna adopt this policy?

i don't like it at all ... when your card gets 'old' ... after a year, it isn't worth paying $25 to Sapphire to get it back ... MUCH worse for Canadians

that is another reason pushing me in favor of the nvidia card

what if it fails again?
:Q

... i lost a little *trust* in Sapphire after visiting their forums

I'm running the Sapphire X1950PRO 512MB

I've tried the Cat. 6.12, the Omega (based on Cat. 7.1), and now the Cat. 7.2...

With ALL of these drivers, if I installed the software along with them, I would get
a "Hang" when Booting up/Shutting down... I am now running JUST the Cat.
7.2 drivers by themselves and "ONLY" using Riva Tuner 2.0 Final to control things
like the fan speed...

I'm getting, depending on ambient temp., 36-40C idle and 60-64C load with
fan at 100%...

Running UT2004 @ 100% CPU usage I only top out at about 44-45C...

Using just Riva Tuner I no longer have the "Hang" problem and the
fan automaticaly rev's up when I boot (I run it on manual/fixed speed) to
whatever I set it too without having to have Riva running in the
background like the other software did... I just made sure to check the
box "Load Fan Profile at Startup"... It seems to change the cards fan
settings in the card BIOS rather than as a "Soft Mod" that depends on the
software running to make the change... That's probably what was causing
the "Hang" in the first place with the other stuff...

Here's a link to Riva Tuner 2.0 Final Release for anyone interested...

NOTE:
Riva Tuner will tell you it isn't updated for newer than Cat. 6.12 but so far I'm
not having any prob's with it... Haven't tried O'Clocking though as yet...

Hope this helps someone...

My Enermax 500W has dual 12v rails with 32A combined & it has no problems. Vdroop is about .06V under load.

Are you sure your 380W PSU has dual 32A (total) rails? Thats pretty high for a 380.

Spell it right :|

and i *made sure* the girl at the CS counter OPENED my returned box ... she was about to put it away without looking when i *reminded* her

they can *find* you thru your CC info if you attempt FRAUD

and i made *damn sure* i had the BB clerk OPEN the box when i first bought it - before i left the line

i *trust* BB

i was so *sure* it would go on sale within 30 days

wrong again

but a decent *experience* overall with BB - after years of avoiding them
