Going to wait for ZZF, I like FedEx shipping, bought from them before, and I am in no real hurry... classes start soon.

FedEx schmedex... included shipping is the main thing, thus saving about $8. Otherwise I've had nothing but positive experiences with both mongers. But ja, the more you wait the more chance these suckas will sell for less than MSRP.

To anyone sitting on the fence about this one here is my experience. I purchased the Powercolor model. The silent cooler is very nice. I did have to upgrade my powersupply to support this card so that is an extra cost you will have to consider. However if you are upgrading to a PCI-E motherboard and card you will need a new power supply as well. Anyways here is my comparison:

Original System:
AMD 64 2800+ 1.8Ghz overclocked to 2.15Ghz
Gigabyte GA-K8NS (2.x Revision) motherboard
1.5 GB of GEIL high speed ram
Dual Raptor Hard drives
EVGA 6800GT video card overclocked slightly
3dMark05 - 4300

Upgraded System - New CPU and Video Card, everything else the same
AMD 64 3200+ 2.2Ghz
Powercolor x1950 Pro AGP running at 575MHz core/690MHz memory
3dMark05 - 8200

Overclocked System
AMD 64 3200+ overclocked to 2.5Ghz
Powercolor x1950 Pro AGP running at 621MHz core/796Mhz memory
3dMark05 - 9400

My original system had lots of issues playing most new games. Battlefield 2142 would stutter very badly. With the new card and cpu it runs flawlessly. Checking the framerates it runs in the 40-70 FPS range. I can play Medieval II: Total War without a hitch where before it would die in the intro battle. I'm very happy with this upgrade. I'm seriously considering picking up another one for my second gaming machine on my LAN. Anyways I hope that helps you!

I had the Ultra 500W one from one of the Outpost deals. I upgraded to an Antec Ne-550. The one with the three 12v rails. The problem was that I was able to load windows just fine but whenever I did anything graphically intensive the machine would crash. I started a support issue with Powercolor and they sent me the approved power supply list. When I changed the powersupply the issue disappeared. Hope that helps!

An X1950XT AGP? You've got to be kidding me!!

Hmm. My X1950PRO is on backorder. (Birthday gift from my folks) Maybe I should have them cancel & wait a bit........

X1950XT? Thats excellent news. If only the price on AGP cards werent so bloated compared to the PCI-e counterparts.

the bridge chip actually costs the partners around $10 ... i think a $50 premium is reasonable.

and that means there well could be a 1950px2
:Q

why not?

maybe i better start looking for a Northwood that can hit 4+Ghz

Andolin,

thank you!

I guess that means it would be too much for my Enlight 420W power supply? Not sure I'd want to spend that kind of coin on this old machine.

Again, thanks,

John

you never know

looking at some of the reviews - IF your rig is NOT "loaded" - 300w is a absolute minimum.

That said, my 480 watts TT exceeds the *recommended minimum* BUT does not have 30a on the 12v rail [18a ]

my x1950p runs perfectly UNLESS i attempt to O/C it or keep a steep O/C on my CPU
[i lowered it from 2.80c@3.31Ghz to 3.2Ghz] ...

If anyone's interested, HIS had already released the X1650 AGP
series with an XT version... "Newegg" is selling them for $229.99 + Shipping

HIS X1650XT 512MB

The spec's look pretty impressive for a X1650 series...

ATI must be getting ready to counter anything that nVidia might
have up their sleeves in the way of a "New" AGP Card release to compete
with the X1950PRO...

We may not only see an XT version of the X1950 but possibly
an XTX version as well...

Could be, I have not compared them in FPU, but in 3D, gaming, and other things, A64 are way slower than Dothans. We are talking about 3D are we not?

Alex

Yes ,which is reliant on the FPU (as well as RAM peformance of course)

Your link to your sys rig is the wrong one (you given us the one that you'd use to edit it).
What CPU have you got?

Paratus
That'd be interesting to see

Andolin
Interesting particularly the BF2142 FPS range, what FPS are you getting with Medieval II: Total War?

apopping
I don't think a x5 mark up is reasonable ,$10 maybe.

wizzard0003
That sounds very steep for an X1650XT!:Q

Yeah, $230+? Maybe that vendor is just overpriced or everyone is gouging during inital release. The equivalent (but 256MB) 7600GT is rather pricey at $180 and has already been out for a few months but had the market to itself vs AMD. In relation to that it would not be unreasonable for the X1650XT 512MB to be $200 or maybe even $210 with such a cooler at the moment but anymore is just silly compared to a $250 1950P 512MB. But hopefully now that there is competition from both camps we will see prices drop... and double-plus hopefully a 8600U materializes to have a simliar effect vis-a-vis the 1950P

But it "IS" an XT rather than a PRO which gives it some advantages even over
the X1950PRO... Mainly MORE Pipelines/Shaders...

(Spec's for HIS X1650XT)
Core clock ~ 630MHz
PixelPipelines ~ 24 (That would give it 72 shaders instead of 36 like the PRO)
Memory Clock ~ 1460MHz
Memory Size ~ 512MB
Memory Interface ~ 128-bit (The one flaw... 256-bit for the X1950 series)
Memory ~ Type GDDR3 (Most, but not all, X1650PRO's use GDDR2)

I would imagine an X1950XT AGP would be priced significantly higher than an
X1950PRO AGP just as it is with the PCI-E versions... And an X1950XTX AGP
would be even higher yet... Stands to reason that an X1650XT AGP would be
more expensive than an X1650PRO AGP as well...

JMHO...

PS:
It did start out at $189.99 a few days ago BTW... Probably selling real well
so, as usual, the price jumps a bit...

The RV560 used for the 1650XT is supposedly identical to the RV570 for the X1950P but with deactivated parts. So, it sports 24 pixel shader and 8 texturing units vs the full 36 and 12 respectively.

That $190 price certainly seems more reasonable and competitive with the 7600GT and differentitates it more from the 1950 512MB @ $250.

So I guess I've misunderstood this...

"Newegg" always jacks the price when items are selling like mad and they are running low on stock...

I got my Sapphire X1950PRO 512MB for$234.99 + shipping (Thanks honestjohn... )
1/2 hour later it was up to $249.99 + shipping and 1/2 hour after that it was sold out... :Q

Can't blame them... They are in business to make money and if people will pay it, that's what they'll sell it for (and so would I... )

apoppin,

thanks for the response. Actually, I'd like to give it a shot, but I think I'll wait until the prices settle out. I'm not heavy into 3d games. I purchased a 20.1", lcd widescreen, display and was worried that my 9600 pro might struggle a little in native, 1680x1050 and it does, when playing a dvd. So, we will see. Also, I'm not sure what levels of current are available from the power supply, but I'll check it out before I make any purchases.

Again, thanks for the response and information!

Interesting.. I don't think my system is loaded, and I don't intend to do any overclocking, so my PSU might be able to handle it (26A on 12V, although it's said to be lower quality than Thermaltake).

Mine is loaded & my 12V rail was dipping upto .5V under load (Coolmax Tarus 400W 18A 12V rail).

So since I added a new 500G HD, have an X1950PRO coming, & want to OC, I replaced the PSU with an Enermax Liberty 500W with 2 12V lines at 22A individualy - 32A combined.

So far the 12V rail doesn't budge.

I just wish my card would come.

im confused with this whole psu thing. i have 600W ultra x-finity psu. with two 12V rails at 18A and 20A. my sapphire x1950 should be coming in week(it has already been shipped) and i was wondering exaclty how the whole power issue works with dual rails. i mean how do u determine what rail its hooked up to and does it make a difference?

Upgrade a little thing and you start upgrade stuffs that might not needed.

1. Buy Card
2. Put Card in Machine
2a. (Only buy new PSU if it didn't work) <- I bet 98% will work just fine without taking this step
3. ???
4. Profits

and ATi won't be getting any *profit* when i upgrade my PS.

Explaining PSU's can be very difficult in one or two sentances...

I wonder if there is any chance my FSP400-60PFN can manage this beastie. I'm pretty sure the 12V is underrated but I'm thinking it is too much to hope for. The expense wouldn't bother me so much but the futzing would.
