Yes but not all X1950PRO AGP's are the same, Sapphire doesn't works, Powercolor either,
Gecube is just garbage. I newer heard about HIS ICQ cards.
Hey, do anyone have HIS IceQ3 Video Card any versions?
Is it PERFECT?

not wishing to burst your bubble ...

actually ...

they *are* the "same"
:Q

Sapphire makes most of 'em including bb ATi [i believe, still] ... with 'differences' being in the cooling and bundle ... and especially price and warranty

a few are O/C'd ... that's about all .. although the DAAMiT partners would like you to think differently

we really haven't seen the other partners' pros in any quantity ... or much difference
[afaik]

It's not that guys, it's just I don't think the X1950Pro AGP version, as it is, is a well enough engineered card with good enough stock cooling solution. Bear in mind a lot of the Sapphire units didn't come with the barely adequate stock HSF even properly installed, and the mysterious blank screen issues (which I suffered from) I don't even know how to begin to diagnose.

I've dumped the X1950Pro and AGP, and have moved to an EpoX PCI-E board with an X1950XT. This (Sapphire) card works without a glitch. I also purchased a 9800XT from ATI some time back, that ran without a glitch.

so you've tried all those and none of them work?

strange, i've heard from many people they work just fine. frankly, while i'm sure there are defective cards out there, the majority can be blamed on 'defective users'.. it's amazing how many people simply cannot understand psu requirements...

the visiontek i had in last week was fine; i ordered the iceQ3 from newegg early thursday. despite overnight shipping and billing being verified @ 10am, newegg didn't ship until 6pm the following day (which really pisses me off; they used to be great at shipping things, but now seems they don't care.. i used to get parts from then in 2 days with their free fed ex saver shipping - which they discontinued some time ago; now $25 for overnight to get here in 2 bus days, but that's another discussion entirely) so I won't be able to offer any info until it gets here monday.

How does HIS X1950PRO AGP card work: this is the question.

first of all, Sapphire works *fine* ---*IF* you have the PS to support it
[30a 12v rail/450w MIN]

i you read thru this thread you might notice a few HIS owners ... i don't remember ... you could also start a NEW thread specifically asking for HIS x1950p owner opinions

BUT ... if your PS is "marginal" i'd say, 'don't bother' or 'YMMV' for HIS or Sapphire

Geocube is same as VisionTek, looks same, and both have fan running at 100% at all times...so that's one to avoid.

Now, my Sapphire is flawless, I can't say that they all are like this, but I haven't had single issue with it yet. Perhaps initial flaws will be sorted out, it they haven't been already addressed. The demand was strong for them at inception, and obviously good profit for ones who managed to get them put quickly.

As for image quality I noticed that too, that X1950Pro looks slightly better for same settings than Geforce 6800U did.

hmm.. the visiontek i used was very quiet. no issues whatsoever there. btw, it's a bit beefier cooler than the ref. cooler used on the sapphire (and others). can't speak for the gecube from experience, but from pics it does appear to use the same cooler.

the overclock utility of Catalyst was disabled however, and apparently it's lacking the chip to monitor temps as that was not available either.

my wife certainly shares your opinion (from 6800
GT).

"Also, it's getting increasingly more difficult to recommend shelling out almost $300 on a video card that is not DX10 compliant at this point in time, with Windows Vista looming on the horizon. "

He's talking about HIS X1950PRO

i had the VisionTek and returned it for the Sapphire

the VisionTek was quieter [some posters say louder] then my Sapphire [and both are definitely quieter than my x850xt with better IQ to boot] and had a MUCH nicer HS ...
it "felt" *solid* ...

otoh, the Sapphire looks *cheap*

but i don't care ... it will only be in my rig for a year ...
and it has a 2 year warranty

i paid $250 ... sold my x850xt for $100 = $150
[and have been HAPPILY gaming for SIX weeks]

*cheap upgrade indeed*

and DX10 is so NEXT year

you don't think x1950p is a good value ...

keep your old card

or spend BIG bucks now for a PCIe rig

DX9 disappearing anytime soon is like AGP disappearing 2 years ago. the naysayers were obviously wrong, as AGP is still here.

there's nothing in VISTA that can't be done with any DX9 card, and as DX9 is still the predominant API, games will certainly cater to that for sometime to come. games will not dump DX9 as that would eliminate almost all of their buyers. i'd be willing to bet even at this time there's probably more DX8 compliant cards out there than there are DX10.

You're an idiot, I have a Sapphire X1950Pro 512mb....it hasn't missed a beat since it was installed...personally I can't see what all the fuss is about them being sh!t.

Other than the HSF which looks a bit cheap (nothing a good polish can't fix) the Sapphire X1950 pro is similar in Quality to most Gigabyte cards I've used.

My Sapphire X1950PRO 512MB has been working just fine exept for being loud when the fan is on high speed...

I'm just going to get something like this...

LINK

And something like these applied to the VRM:

LINK

And then I'll have something like this:

LINK

LINK

That's what I'm planning to do anyways...

Here's a comparison of aftermarket coolers for anyone interested:

Hope this helps...

PS:
I agree about DX9 vs DX10... It will be quite some time before DX10 will be needed and some of the older cards (like the X1950PRO) will be supported for some time yet to come... I doubt game manufacturers are going to overnight release games that can't be played by MOST of their customers without an upgrade... :Q

PSS:
I also agree that an underpowered PSU is also one of the BIGGEST reasons for X1950PRO problems...

Hey guys, I've been running my Sapphire X1950 Pro for a few days now and it's working flawlessly. In fact, I'm using a an Antec 430 TrueWatt psu (one rail running at 36 amp, not two). It's running fine, but would you guys suggest upgrading my PSU for the future, just in case later games are more demanding on my card? For all the nay sayers out there, this is one of the best upgrades I have made in a very long time and I have 0 regrets.

You'll probably be OK with 36 amp's on the +12V rail...

I'd say you'd be better off going with more memory... I've just ordered a 2G Dual Channel kit to replace my 1G Dual Channel kit as I'm finding that now that I have a top of the line VGA, I'm running out of memory on some games (UT2004 for example)...

JMHO...

I would agree....the only problem for me now is that I need a new monitor....my 17in just isn't doing my Videocard any justice.

Yeah, the only problem I face is that they don't produce my memory anymore(Corsair XMS 3200 LLPT 2-3-2-6) , so buying another gig is out of the question. I've looked everywhere, and can't seem to find it. So, looks like I will have to buy a fresh 2 gigs if I choose to upgrade

I have had a chance to play Oblivion for about 20 minutes, I notice a few artifacts in the distance, going to try some of the LOD mod packs to see if it can be corrected. I get a few strange artifacts in Battlefield 2 for the first 3 minutes or so and then it clears up by itself. No problems at all in CS:Source. FarCry's sky turns black when I enter into a shadow, but that is fixed by disabling shadows (only game that shadows do not look cheesy in is doom 3). Seems to have more minor quirks and artifacts versus my old nvidia card, but it is noticeably faster in Oblivion and BF2. Stability appears to be identical to my nvidia card, neither crashed and I left the farcry benchmark looping overnight. I am willing to gamble that the performance gap will only widen with newer titles (FEAR comes to mind). At the same settings, I cant really tell any IQ difference between it and my 6800GT, but I can crank up the details a bit higher on this AMD card to make it look better without as much of a performance hit as I took on my nvidia. Kinda wish that I had not upgraded and just ran my 6800GT into the ground until late summer and got a PCI-E mobo / video card, but I am selling my 6800GT soon to a friend, so it will not cost me that much in the end.

Be ready, PSU for X1950Pro Must be 30A at least on single port rail or on double at least 20A.
Who is going to spend $100 for the PSU and +$250 for AGP card? Total $350 , better is
to spend money on future upgrades.
I have 9800PRO AGP and i can run 99% games , on low setings but i can stll play them.
Or i can upgrade to 7800 GS card wich req's just 480 w PSU. It will be cheaper.

Not a bad price for 2G's...

If I can get close to the O'clock I'm running with the 1G kit that would be good but, even if I have to turn down the O'clock, 2G's will serve me better in the long run i think...

Think my Antec TruPower 3.0 420watt is not enough power for it and is causing those minor artifacts? I got two independent power rails attached to the card.

Not meaning to be critical but I have an Antec 430 Truepower supply and it puts out 36 amps on the 5v rail and 20 amps on the 12v single rail. I have been paying attention to this thread since I am going to make the NEW AGP card plunge my self. I am leaning toward the Powercolor unit because of the Arctic Cooling Accelero X2. I will attempt an install using the Antec 430 truepower PS, if this fails, I will pick up my next full system builds PS early..heh. Thanks to all those that have been keeping all of us lurkers informed on this very interesting subject.
