See my sig for current system specs. As you can see I'm currently running an X1950 PRO 512MB card. I mostly play FPS games on a 22" LCD and typically like to run at the native res with 2 or 4x AA and as much additional eye candy as possible. For the most part, this card does pretty darn good on most games except Crysis. As far as Crysis goes I pretty much shelved the game until I can run it with some decent visuals.

I should have a little extra cash laying around in the next couple weeks and I'm thinking about upgrading my card. The thing is that I don't know if it's really worth it at this point and was hoping you guys could tell me if I should wait. I don't plan on spending over 300 and was planning on going with an EVGA 8800GT 512MB even though I'm kind of partial to ATi cards. However, the truth of the matter is that ATi just can hang these days so if I do upgrade I plan to jump ship.

Tell me what you think. Thanks in advance.

Maybe waiting would be wise, it IS kind of dissapointing that these so called new gen cards have the same performance (or lower) as cards introduced in December of 2006. It seems that finally ATI/NV are willing to introduce something new (R700 and G100) but those cards are reportedly not coming until late Q2, if you can wait that long then neat, otherwise just get that 8800GT, it's pretty fast and cheap, just remember, games are starting to be more than it can handle.

About Crysis, well, you can probably still get the game to run on 1024x768 with high settings (which includes Edge AA) and it would still look really great.

The best value probably goes to 2900pro. With a $150 price tag it should perform within 2900xt/3870 speeds once overclocked.

If the games you play now run fine then I dont see the need to get a new card, wait till there are alot of things you cant run then upgrade.

Yeah, the most I could do comfortably in Crysis with my old X1950 Pro was 1024x768 medium details. I upgraded to an HD3850 256MB, and that got me a small jump to 1280x960, same details, but likely still not enough for your native res, and definitely not with 2-4xAA.

So is the 2900XT the fastest ATI card?
