Originally, I was undecided on both of those cards, hence the original post. People in here seemed to lean towards the X1950 XTX, and my findings in general leaned towards that one instead. I saw instances in games that I do play (which are all at 1680x1050, if the game supports the resolution) where the 7950GX2 pretty much offered no performance advantage over the X1950 XTX. I have had fantastic experiences with both companies, so it was tough to decide. People on here were part of the deciding factor, though. I wasn't hell bent on either one for a long time.
For the record, the motherboard I use (since I saw debates about it) is a DFI LANparty UT nF4 Ultra-D and I use an Athlon 64 X2 4200+ that I now have overclocked (as of a few days ago) to 2.4Ghz. 2.6Ghz/core was great and stable, but the performance didn't increase much in the work that I do so I left it at 2.4Ghz (but at least I have that option available in the future). The computer was running and someone decided to play a game when the fan suddenly stopped working on the video card and it really hosed up that card. A backup card that I used to have was given by me to a relative, too, so that PC isn't doing me any good today without a video card in it.
Also, I didn't go with the X1900XT because, with an average price of $363 and the X1950 XTX being around $400-$420, it really isn't that much more inexpensive that it would make your eyes pop out in amazement. Also, like noted in Anandtech's review of the X1950 XTX, I have seen one of those cards at someone's house and the X1900 XT has such an annoying fan. That has got to be the loudest fan on a graphics card that i've heard, and they pointed out the irritating fan in their review as well. The system I saw an X1950 XTX in was much quieter when in games, and I like that difference as well. I do not have a computer that sounds like an apache helicopter, so I surely would've heard that shrill, high-pitched fan and have been driven crazy by it. I like all the improvements they made over the X1900XT and since I can afford to buy a 1950XTX, I went with that instead of saving a little bit of money. If I'm playing games using DirectX 10 and absolutely, for some weird reason, need a new DirectX 10 card later next year, I will just go buy one. I know for a fact that I won't be strapped for cash next year (and i'm not right now either) so a high-end purchase right now isn't a bad idea for me. I usually don't like to buy the first generation of new video cards and like to wait a little while anyways. Thats why I went with the X1950 XTX over the X1900 XT and if that isn't acceptable, well then thats fine .
I purchased it on Newegg this morning and I'm having it rush processed and shipped overnight via FedEx. It appears to have been shipped out before 2pm Central (i'm in Minnesota), so it looks like I will have it tomorrow by 3pm.
