Thinking of getting the 512 MB version by MSI on newegg for around $150.00. Seems like a real good bang for your buck, and would be better than the 7600 GT I got. I'm also thinking of getting a 19" LCD monitor. For almost half of the price of a 8800 GTS do you guys think it's the best bang for your buck right now?

I was going to get a 8600 GT/GTS when they came out but after seeing lackluster reviews I may pass up on it. I get a little slowdown during BF2 with AA at 4x and AF at 16.

I'm looking at that same MSI card. Not only does it have 512MB it also seems to be better built than many of the other 1950pro cards out there.

But...at $30 more you can get a 1950xt. Though the chipset is better, it just doesn't look like a very well put together card.

But...to save power/heat the Nvidia 7900gs and 7950gt are in the same range. You may pay a little more for the 7950gt, but probably get away with a smaller/less expensive PSU. Of course the 1950's perform better. So many possibilities!!!

I have that 1950XT card (sapphire) and I am happy with the performance, but the card is very loud as the stock cooling is a very high speed fan. It sure moves a lot of air, but at the cost of noise. Also, not sure if this is all cards or this one solely, you have to have the game in full screen mode in order to get it to play at the overclocked speeds. Most of the games that I play, i prefer to have them in windowed mode, so I am not getting the performance of the overclocked speeds. Something to keep in mind.

I would have bought an 8800 if I could have found one for $300 at the time I was buying mine (got it for $195 after rebate, though I am still waiting on the rebate since February 1st).

X1950XT is much faster than X1950Pro and it costs just $20 more if you are going to spend $150 already.

You can always pick up an X1950GT instead and overclock it to X1950Pro's performance. Use the price difference to get a 20 inch monitor vs. 19 instead

Russian, are you talking about this card? http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16814102067

I'm kind of worried about getting a 256 MB card because I like running stuff with AA and AF on. I wonder if I put the AA and AF up to around 4x/8x by 16x if the Pro with 512 MB will start to pull ahead of the 256 version of the x1950xt. I saw some benchmarks with AA on but it was using the 256 MB version of the Pro and 256 MB version of the x1950xt.

Here is X1950XT 256mb vs. X1950Pro

Anandtech benches

Also in this review X1950XT 256mb keeps up with X1900XT 512mb version but both outperform X1950Pro 256. Link

You can always save some $$ and get an X1950GT 256mb for around $120.

You're generally going to want a 256 version (to save money as well) of you're gaming on a CRT still @ 1280 but if you're above that with some AA-AF you might want to consider an X1950XT 512MB or for better pricing BFG has a nice 7950GT 512MB for about 219.00 AR.
