I got a Powercolor X1950XTX. I installed the drivers and control center that came with it. After installing, I noticed that it is Catalyst 6.7.
I uninstalled the ATI drivers. Cleaned the Registry and deleted the Temp folder files, per ATI instructions and ran Driver Cleaner Pro, in Safe Mode, cleaning the cab file and any stray ATI drivers.
I then tried to install Catalyst 6.8 from the ATI site. A minute into installation, it gives a no INF file found error. I tried two more times, deleting all drivers and using Driver Cleaner Pro, in safe mode, and got the same error and on the second try, I even tried downloading the individual files and it does the same thing on the first one, the Display Driver Only file specifically.
Do you think something is wrong with the drivers (do not have an INF file, as the error reads), although it seems ATI would have fixed that if that were the case since the 6.8 has been out for a month?
Could it be that Catalyst 6.7 can recognize the X1950 but the 6.8 can not and therefore produce that error code?
Could a defective card cause this?
The 6.7 work okay, I am just concerned going forward, if no higher catalyst drivers will work on this new card and since I have never used ATI I am not sure how ATI handles issues like this.
Any suggestions?
