X2 240...How to put thermal grease?

I know with the intel core 2's that you put the grease in a strip from bottom to the top (not side to side), reason being is thats better in relation to where the cpu's are underneath the heatsink.

Should I do the same with the amd?

What you describe is for Core 2 Quads, which were two Core 2 Duo dies under one IHS.

IIRC, all of the latest Athlon and Phenom chips are a single die. So, a tiny dab of grease in the middle of the IHS should be perfect.

The reason for applying a strip was because the core 2 duos were not a square die, it's rectangular.

In any case, my preferred method of applying thermal grease has always been a dot, enough for the heatsink to squish out some of the grease to all the sides. I suppose you could apply the grease in an "X" to make sure some thermal grease covers the corners.

However, the Athlon 240 runs cool enough that you really don't have to worry too much about how to apply it, as long as you apply it at all.
