hm...i have a question for all you guys. not to hijack the thread, but what if he didn't already have an am2 board? my situation is that i already have 2GB of ddr2 RAM (667) and a freezer 64 pro (current 939 rig). would the extra ~$70 spent on the e4300 and mobo be worth it? i mean, really, $70, that's like a second x2 3600. also note that i'd have to either buy the e4300 retail or oem with an aftermarket heatsink, whereas i already have a good heatsink that would work for the 3600.
basically, assuming they're both overclocked to 3ghz (just for argument's sake), would the e4300 be worth the more expensive motherboard (i would get the tforce 550 for the 3600), the much more expensive processor, and (possibly) the heatsink? which will offer a better price/performance ratio? i mean it would cost about 60% more to go with the e4300. unless i get a dud overclocker for the 3600 or an amazing overclocker for the e4300, i wouldn't get 60% more performance, would i?
oh man, i just hijacked this thread. XP
