my thoughts as well, also I couldn't seem to get it stable over 2650 even at 1.55V

Woulda been cooler if it was a 1mb dual core Opteron.

Nice OC anyways.

Much cooler!

But I had this X2 well before the golden Opterons hit the street!

Temps are HOT! You will be able to go much further if you get the temps down. I think you should consider swapping the XP90 for a TT Big Typhoon, and then removing the IHS. Load temps will drop around 14C i am betting. Lower temps will give you more Mhz at the same voltage, and then give you access to higher voltage.

I don't think he'd see a 14C drop.
I think best case scenario maybe a 10C drop, but more realistically, it'd be a ~ 5-7C drop in load temps.

Edit: ah yeah, with IHS removed, that'd help.

But 58C isn't really too hot. Staying below 65C would be the main thing...

40 hours Prime stable ( was gone all weekend ) so I just let it crank away..

1.56v isn't too shabby either..

2.8ghz requires about 1.62v which is too high for me..

Lucky bastard

My X2 isn't even P95 stable @ 2.4 Ghz

(It's stable @ 2.55 GHz for what i use it though, which is why i run it there.)

I am saying that if you know your pc will crash at a certain period of time in prime 95, then it is not stable. It will be considered stable if it does not crash. Normally, the longer the better.

With all due respect, you're being silly. There has to be some finite test cycle after which you assume the machine is stable. Nobody tests an overclocked machine in a way that can "prove" it is stable indefinitely.

No dice @ 2.4ghz? I have had some very good luck with my chips.. (3000+ @ 2.4ghz ; 2.6; 2.8-2.9ghz ) X2 @ 2.7ghz

All prime/superPI stable..

My temps came down quite a bit as well.. I have a 92mm Zalman that pushes 52CFM @ 34 Dba.. I have a PanaFLOW 69cfm @ 43dba coming this week..

I may shoot for 2.8ghz, I just don't know if the volts are worth it!

52C isn't too bad at all!

Wish I had VapoChill!

 Nice OC bj..you'll find after 2600-2700 these things just get too hot anyway on 90nm so don't worry about that xtra 100Mhz for 2800.. The 2MB cache chips get even hotter.

What kind of volts are you running through your 4200+ on water?

Would you be concerned with 1.62v

Personally I'm not really into pushing so much voltage into my CPU, even if I'm watercooled. Heat is not the only problems a CPU run into at high voltages AFIAK. If I wanted some benchmark record sure, but wether I could tell the difference in speed running 2.8 instead of 2.6 I don't know, and to me it's not worth getting a headache or a dead CPU.

Biostud,
Thanks for sharing those links about CPU scaling in games in your sig. It was a good and interesting read.

My 120mm Panaflo does 92CFM @ 41 dba. So haha. I'm making fun of you because I love my PC and am proud. Yeah, that's right. Also, my 4200 x2 will get here in less than 2 days. I have heard that v should not exceed 1.45 at all, even in ocing. Is this true, and what speeds can I expect, because 2.7 seems a bit low. Maybe I'm just used to my 3000 Winnie that does 2.5 @ stock v.

Also, good OC.

2.7 seems low?

I had 2.8ghz on my 3000+

I am messing with the ITE on the DFI board ( temp/fan settings )

I have it set so my fan doesn't kick on to about 40C now..

So most of the time the fan doesn't even spin!

I was kidding about the fans. Wow. Even with water cooling, I can't get past 2.4 stably. And... um... I just now really looked at the 4200, the proc that I am going to get hopefully today, and it runs at 2.2; I was thinking that it does 2.4 stock, so I guess that 2.7 is decent after all. Also, I have a DFI nF4, and is your chipset fan really loud? Mine is, and I want it to be quiet.
