x2 3800 OC temps

I've got an X2 under a thermaltake heatsink, running at 2.5ghz. The thing idles at about 32C and with both cores under load it sits at about 50C. The difference in load and idle temps kind of surprises me, is it okay for the difference to be that huge? Also this heatsink is freshly installed would the fact that the arctic silver hasn't "set" be the cause of this?

the thermal sensors could be off....try touching (with your fingers) as close to the cpu as possible when it reports 50C....at 50C, it should burn your finger if left on for a second or two

That's normal IMO. I have X2 3800+ OC 2440MHz and with Zalman CNPS7700Cu temps are 30-32C idle and 47-54C load depending on the application I'm running (Prime, 3Dmark06 CPUtest, games, etc.)

The thermal sensors would be off in the original/ending temperature, not the delta.

No, the delta for that should be fine. The load temps look alright, and so long as you aren't over 60C, you should be good. Check the PWM ICs, though, they may be getting rather hot.
