Hello,
I have a question maybe one of the pro's can answer.
Which X2 3800+ ( Manchester or Toledo core ) will make the better overclocker
Thanks for your help!

is that right i thought the 3800+ was a Manchester core, and the 4200+ and the 4600+ were both Toledo cores, with half the cache disabled due to the yields.

This is definitely up for debate. The Toledo cores are new, and I've seen some extremely impressive OC's on them. On the other hand, I've also seen great OC's on the Manchesters. I don't think there is enough evidence either way to proclaim the "better core" yet. Either way though, at this point, it doesn't look like you can go wrong with either.

4200+ & 4600+ = Manchester
4400+ & 4800+ = Toledo
3800+ = Manchester OR Toledo (check your stepping)

I would say get the Toledo core. They have a smaller die, probably higher OC capabilities.

I believe that the Toledo has a larger die due to the extra 512K cache.. I could be wrong though.

They have a larger die but it truly doesnt matter since the disabled cache should use close to no power.

Ordered a 3800+ from TankGuys which is a Toledo core with half the L2 disabled.

I'll let you know how it overclocks.

I believe the real 512KB Cache is 'BV' and the 1MB Cache with 512KB of it disabled is 'CD'. Or is it the other way around??? I don't know

Does the X2 3800 from tankguys come with a fan and heatsink? I'm about to buy it, and if it does I'll get it from tankguys instead of newegg, seeing as its about $25 cheaper and I want the Toledo core.

Yes, it is the Toledo core, and is the retail boxed, with heatsink, a fan, and a 3 year warranty.

Actually to be fair, its $15 cheaper, as newegg shipping is free, and tankguys is $10. It IS still cheaper, and they can;t give these away, so I understand they have to charge for shipping.

Yep, we charge exact shpping costs; no markup on that.

And actually, our cost to buy the X2's in the first place was $350.31, so we are selling them below cost. When you also factor in credit card processing and ad fees, we're losing ~$12 each. But, it's the only way we can try and steal some market share from the big guys

The manchesters with less cache are supposed to oc higher from what ive heard. OF course, theres bound to be revisions of each cpu lines along the way, which always changes things a bit. Who knows, buy both and test.
