X2 game issue....How can it be hardware...Take a look and debate...

If you dont think it is possibly a software issue then riddle me this!!!


1) ppl claim to have issues in XP hme and not XP pro...

seems like this could be related to the multithreaded kernel....or the HAL driver from windows...


2) ppl claim to have issues in win xp home and not in windows 2000


3) games seem to be the only single threaded apps I have heard have a glitch.....Doesn't that seem odd??? Playback of video DVDs are not multithreaded and they are not being sped up...Superpi unfortunately has not garnered me a 6.2sec time at 1mb (DAMN!!!!)....F@H units are also unfortunately running right where they are supposed to be...

Why just games...DVD playback uses vid card so that should be ruled out....


How can it be hardware then???

Not much there to debate, seems software to me.

It seems AMD made it too easy to upgrade to dual core so people just didnt do clean installs when switching (which I must say, does sound pretty cool) so they had to deal with changing the abstraction layer and installing the CPU driver, while people who did clean installs just had to install the driver. Since people had to do a motherboard swap for Intel's dual cores they didnt have to deal with the abstraction layer problem.

There are a few fixes for this issue, none of them graceful. Sony Online Entertainment does not support these fixes and cannot assist in recovery if something were to go wrong. Proceed at your computer's risk.

The same problem exist in World of Warcraft 1.5, since patched to 1.6, the problem totally gone. I have zero knowledge on programming, but from the X2 CPUs start appear on the market in June, to the WoW 1.6 patch which came in July, I think that is a easy fix, hope the experienced SoE can fix it fast, don't lose to the online game world newbie WoW

from another forum...brings up a good point...If a patch in a game can fix it then it has to be software cause it cant fix a hardware problem.....

Man...you crazyyy. It's not an issue from AMD. They didn't rush anything. They built a very good, efficient cpu. Evidence is showing that it is a software issue...and it is correctable on the user side. You seem quite anxious to blame AMD. Sorry to hear (if) you're an owner and you're having an abnormally bad time with it.

Fatty just likes to blame AMD...this is a simple matter of installing a patch.
Of course Intel suffers from the same thing (though more so) with both HT and dual cores.
I wonder if they have a patch yet??

I had this problem with WC3. A fresh reinstall, use of Nvidia's latest drivers, and Dling AMD's drivers (Requires SP2 ) fixed the problems.

I did have a problem in win2k with WC3, and the patch only works for XP, but winlauncher fixed that.
