X2 game issue...Is it the same with ATI and NVIDIA?? How many problems are the P-Ds having???

PPL confirm what games are having issues, and how so....please list..

1) specs
2) whether X2 driver is installed
3) nvidia or ati driver used
4) whether you have latest game patches
5)whether you hav elatest chipset drivers
6) whether changing affnity for process helps or not...


AMD X2 driver

Let me get this started by saying before I had AMD X2 cpu driver installed....I had an issue with the game Flatout...jerkiness and freezes....

I fixed it intially by setting affinity to just 1 cpu...

I then installed cpu driver and now I dont have to chaneg the processor affinity and it is 100% fine....

I was using nvidia 77.77 drivers and lastet NF3 chipset drivers...



I confirm I had no issue with NFS Underground 2 before or after AMD X2 driver installation....

All I can add is I have an ATI 9600pro, catlyst 5.2 and no AMD driver, and no problem with WC3. Also WIN2K for OS, may be important.

In WoW background textures load and are jittery when moving instead of smooth like they were with my 3700+

I get an error when trying to set the affinity, /usepmtimer and x2 driver did not help

Currently using the 6.66 nf4 drivers and the 77.77's

Aren't the latest Nvidia graphics drives supposed to be multi-threaded? Perhaps that is helping to contribute to some of the problems. I'll test some games on my x2 when I get home to see if I run in to any issues.

i had the problem in warcraft III with both my x850xtpe and my 7800gtx oc

i "fixed" the situation by reinstalling windows. this would fix gameplay but i still couldnt encode and play at the same time. if i encode and tried to play it instantly was bad as opposed to gettin bad over time if all i was doing was playing

set affinity worked for me.

oh, yes at first i thought it was driver related

so i tried mobo drivers 6.53 and 6.66 and vid card drivers 5.7 and 5.6 (for the x850) and tried nvidia drivers (7800) 77.56 and 77.77 with every combination possible, so i've thus concluded its not driver related

after i set affinity, i can encode and play without problems at all.

PPL what we need to remember is that this appears only to be happening with games...Has anyone seen other single threaded apps behave this way?? I saw it briefly on 3dmark but every other single threaded app works like normal...

1) Specs of rig in my sig, but still trying to work out my OC due to either a vcore problem with my m/b or just a lame core0, but currently at 2640 (264 x 10) and 440mhz 2.5-3-3-7 @1t (5:6 divider).

Star Wars Knights Of The Old Republic II was VERY buggy and locked up constantly at stock speeds (prior to OC'ing anything). I used the Affinity option and it helped but was still buggy in the long run.

Empire Earth is not buggy at all, but last night I saw my first slow down ever, so not too sure what's with that yet.

2) X2 Driver is NOT installed
3) Driver for the video card are 77.77 on the 7800 GTX
4) Latest Game Patches for Star Wars Knights II and Empire Earth II
5) Drvier for the chipset are 6.66 straight from Nvidia
6) For Star Wars KTOR II, Affinity helped. I have NOT had to do it for Empire Earth yet.

Forgot to mention, I'm using Win XP Pro SP2 for the OS

First, the kids at the last lan party said everything was OK, but the mouse was "fast", so I said no problems.

CORRECTION : I DID HAVE PROBLEMS WITH WC3 UNTIL I LOADED AND RAN THE WINLAUNCHERXP PROGRAM LISTED ABOVE.

OK, that winlauncher fixed it, and I am sorry when I said all was OK , as I trusted the kids at the lan party. They went thru the entire lan game no problem, or at least made it. Anyway, that fixed it, and I was running that while working vpn'ed in to work, with 15 windows open, 4 sql sessions, and 4 telnet sessions, 2xF@H AND Warcraft3. I don't ever want to hear anybody say the X2 is unstable. Oh, and thats at 2563 OC'ed !!!!

Edit, and I can't find an X2 driver on the AMD site for win2k, only XP. Also, the THG set affinity program didn;t work, or I have to re-boot to get it to work, and I can;t do that while working.

That didn;t answer any questions, except you seem to say set affinity doesn't work, and I call you a liar on that one, if that is what you meant !! And if you really are correct, what game, what os, etc.... Either give the correct information, or stop trolling.

4400 oc'ed here. The latest drivers for everything and setting affinity seems to have fixed any issues i was having before.


Oh, if powernow is active, it just locks up after about 5 minutes ofgame time, but thats with the OC

I've been sticking to EQ and BF2 mostly and haven't had a chance to play any other games recently. But, BF2 works with no problems what so ever.

EQ has a problem with multi core processors. You can work around it by:
1. Start EQ Patcher
2. Bring up task manager (Before hitting the play button)
3. find the process and set the affinity to one of the two CPU's (either is fine)
4. Continue Hit Play on the EQ patcher and you are fine for the rest of the session.
