X2 game issue...Is it the same with ATI and NVIDIA?? How many problems are the P-Ds having???

For changing affinity I use a freeware program called SMP SeeSaw it allows you to either move processes to certain CPU or to completely isolate a single process to a single CPU.

I usally get better performance from games, 3dmark, etc... when I isolate them on the second CPU.

Okay,

My computer specs are in the sig, I'm running all of the latest drivers X2 AMD driver, Nforce 6.66 or whatever, and Nvidia 81.??. The newest driver download from there site. I have an ABIT AN8 Ultra with stock sound card.

I can play BF2 for about 40 minutes, before it hard locks. The game stays on the screen but the computer is locked and I have no way to get out of it other then to hard reboot. I have run Memtest is DOS, 13 tests zero error's. I am Prime 95'ng the system now, and will let you know the results of a 15 hour test later today.

I truely believe this is a software issue. How many people that run BF2 are running a SATA Raid setup?

Looking at the IRQ's my SATA Raid is being shared with the USB Controller, and Nvidia LAN. Could it be something as simple at this.

I am know computer building genuis. I just want this damn thing to work. I don't believe this is a hardware issue at all.

I did have problems with the computer posting with an IBM Optical USB Mouse, but I went to a Logitech G5 mouse and have no problems now.

any help would be greatly appreciated

Did Windows Hotfix with Registry Hack, Went back to Nvidia Driver 78.03 and the computer is not locking anymore. I tried 78.03 on it's own and still got a lock. This registry hack was the fix. Over 1 1/2 hours of battlefield straight

blah.. i wish i played more games to see if i had the dual-core issues on this P-D. but then again, if i was a gamer i would have saved up and gotten the X2 instead

BF2 - no issues -max settings plays for hours both single and multiplayer
Americas Army = no issues - same max settings
COD UO = no issues - same max settings

tried 32 bit version of Far Cry - locks after about 1 minute
tried 64 bit version of Far Cry same deal (yes I installed it exactly as instructed)

Far Cry plays for 1 minute about and then locks every time - the video stops and sound continues for about 15 seconds then looping sound effect and then complete lock requires hard restart.

Drivers I have tried various sets with no change for primary parts based on suggestions from others- it only seems to be Far Cry? Doom 3 also would hang during cinematic sequences never got to gameplay.

Other games just look and play ridiculously well with this rig - it just is very aggravating to not be able to play Far Cry

UPDATE
All problems solved - This turns out for me to be a simple audio problem - the onboard sound for the Asus SLI Premium is not very good at least when it comes to my sample anyways - it works fine outside of gaming environments. -I disabled the sound and Far Cry problems resolved completely as well as DOOM 3 which was locking up as well

I now have no more gaming issues although the EAX code for Far Cry must be crappy because I still had to set it at medium quality even with a new Audigy 2 zs so it would play without locking. Doom 3 is sweet, BF2 is as well, now I able to play with video settings all maxed out for all games - no runfirst or affinity issues to deal with.

X2 has no gaming issues at all for me it turned out to be an onboard audio issue after all.

With this major frustration resolved - I would not hesitate to recommend this processor, I know many will laugh at building a rig that cost $1900 and I was using onboard sound. I have learned my lesson - no need to pile on

I hope someone else with these similar problems finds a solution as simple as the one I have found !

Where'd you find this? I can only find his September 1 post asking people for more information about their machines.

I want to know because I cannot buy a dual core unless someone like Anand gives the green light. (I'm not too interested in X2s anyway. But, if UT2007 absolutely REQUIRES it, I might bite my tongue, pinch my nose, close my eyes, cross my fingers and take the plunge...) :evil::laugh:

No I have had it turned off the whole time.

BTW, Update, still getting BF2 crashes, I went back to the newer Nvidia drivers, reinstalled the chipset drivers, turned off EAX in BF2 and set Affinity and havn't had a crash yet, *crosses fingers*

WoW runs perfectly for me now though!

Update again, I've narrowed my BF2 crashes to doing all of the above and not using my USB headset from Plantronics. Anyone who is having problems with BF2 after doing all of the above should remove all unecessary connections and see if the game becomes stable.

I had the stuttering with STEAM in TFC, setting one cpu to affinity fixed it ,however the best solution for me was to install the AMD X2 driver, all is working great now,so no need for me to download the Microsoft hotfix patch for x2 CPUs.


I forgot to say using latest bios and drivers, cool & quiet disabled in BIOS ,rig specs below in Epox rig.
