X2 game issue...Is it the same with ATI and NVIDIA?? How many problems are the P-Ds having???

On Win2k you need to set affinity. Sone of the programs don't work either. Look for winlauncher, thats what I used, and it fixed it. (on WC3)

Well I solved my problem. Upped my memory to 2 GB and not a issue in over 5 hours of playing.

I Lied, when I play Farcry the sound (voices and FX mainly) get this horrible scratching sound. I thought it was my integraded sound overheating (had this problem on countless cards), When Encoding I would set the Affinity for Farcry thats when I notice the sound problem go away. After further testing I found that the sound would screw up on FarCry unless I set an affinity for it.

Problem: Audio skips and problems at cinematics, mouse would erratically jump from one point to another while trying to navigate the menu. At that point I made my way, albeit slowly, over to the 'Exit' option to quit.

Resolution: Set affinity by however means necessary (ie via TaskManager, runfirst, WinLaunchXP, etc). After that, it cleared up and no problems at all.

Gotta love CroTeam. Now if they can just adapt their engine and game to be more... *ahem* friendly to multi-core/HT.

I got a X2 3800+ with no problems with BF2 or Medal Of Honor Pacific Assault so far. Don't have any other games to try.

Nvidia 6.66 chipset drivers

Everythings works fine without setting affinity. Seems like both processors are load balancing things well in task manager with BF2 or MOH.

one thing bugs me about winlauncher xp though

does anyone know how to make it so running winamp through it doesn't spawn 2 extra blank taskbar entries i can't get rid of?

I have the 3800 X2 and I am having problems with FarCry. Jerky and only getting around 38 to 40 fp/s in the demo research.

I hear you need a patch for it if you have nvidia 6 series or nwer cards.....many not even be anything related to the X2....

I had an Nvida 6800GT and thougth I had a bad video card so I returned that and got an ATI x800XL. Reformated and installed everything fresh will all the patches and FarCry still runs with very low frame rates.

I believe it is just interesting that ppl with both Nvidia and ATI cards and X2's dont have issues with Farcry..ther is obviously some component that is having an issue...

I was having infrequent hard lockups playing BF2. Installed the AMD May 2005 XP X2 drivers and the problem seems to have been cured.

I agree it is strange. I have changed out everything except the MB and Processor. I am not sure what the problem is. I have tried all the things that people on here has suggested but still have low frames rates. I am going to pickup Half Life 2 and see how that runs.

I've tried all the suggested fixes barring a reformat. Nothing has worked. I play BF2 primarily and once I begin moving in-game, I get a lock up, blue screen, and then a reboot.

the only problem i've had so far is the serious sam2 demo with the aforementioned audio skipping and such. settinng affinity fixes it.

bf2, rome:tw, age of empires 3, civ3 and morrowind are the only other games i've tried so far and all are flawless.

originally i did try using just a plug n' play install of the x2, just swapping out my 3700+sandy and added the x2 drivers but i had some problems.

so i did what Duvie suggested with the clean install and i haven't had any issues since.

Would you mind laying out the steps you took while re-installing? Did you use the X2 drivers? What order did you install things...etc, etc.

One last question, do you have to set affinity after you've reinstalled?

i only have to set affinity now with serious sam 2 but thats still a demo.

format and install xp w/ sp2
install chipset drivers (no nv ide)
install x2 driver
install nv graphics driver

Add Raven Shield to the list - works like a charm with WinLauncher. (simply alt tabbing and setting affinity in task manager did not work - the game ran but in slow motion)

Well, a format and reinstallation of XP + the X2 driver seems to have done the trick for me. BF2 runs smooth as silk now.

I have to say, after getting through the frustration, and seeing how smoothly the game runs with AVG scanning in the background........I'm a believer now.
