X25-M 160gb vs (2x 30gb Raid 0 Vertex) - Better for Boot drive and apps

I just got the x25-m kingston deal and I was wondering which would be better for me.

I want to use the SSD as the main boot drive so 60gb should be plenty for me. Would I notice a difference in speed if I used 2x 30gb vertex in raid 0 vs. 1 X25-M?

What should I do? Should I keep the 160gb SSD, or sell it and get 2x OCZ vertexs?

What are you using for the raid-0? Onboard mobo raid or discreet add-on card raid w/o cache, or discreet card w/dedicated cache?

I'd recommend the Intel drive then.

How much did you pay for the 160?

Yeah, I don't know how anyone runs on less than 250GB these days. Install just a few apps and I'm nearing the 10% free space barrier already

You also need to factor in the cost of a good RAID. Although, having one will be well worth it for future SSDs. I'd take the 2x30GB vertex myself. Too bad that $85AR Newegg deal is no longer available.

I assume he got in on the buy.com price error. They briefly had them listed at the same price as the 80gb on their website and on ebay= $399.99. I bought two thinking it would never go thru but both of mine are on the way! I'm two states away on vacation but will have my daughter pick them up the day they arrive so they don't sit on the doorstep.

I am running two 80gb intels in raid now and am wondering whether I should switch back to one single drive(160) and sell the rest of them. In my opinion, the first drive makes a huge difference in how my system performs, while adding the second in raid 0 bench's way faster, the difference at that point is very minimal in "feel".

I'm doind just fine with 160GB+120GB.

i would sell the intel 160GB... and buy a 60GB vertex. because I Don't like my OS drive to have raid. but if you are ok with it, than 2x30GB vertex definitely...

Even if you don't want the vertex, sell the 160GB intel and buy a single 80GB intel for your OS drive, since you said you only need 60GB for OS drive, those 300$ you pocket will allow you a nice upgrade in a year or so.
