X300 Screen Resolutions?

I think it is the x300 anyways. It is the onboard video that came on my parents motherboard that they bought from Compaq. I just reinstalled Windows on it and their moniter supports a 1280x1024 res., but when I install the Catalyst drivers from ATI it won't let me go over 1024x768. Does anyone know if it is just the drivers limiting me from this. I can post more info when I get off of work but for now I got to go. Help is appreciated.

Yeah the monitor supports because I had it at 1280x1024 before I installed the drivers and restarted the computer. When it booted back up it was in 800x600 withe the resolution limits at 640x480 - 1024x768. Can't go any higher then that with the drivers on it seems...

Sounds like a problem with the driver install. Try DriverCleaner or some other "cleaning" app to return your video to the basic default VGA, then re-install.

You have done something wrong with the drivers, or the drivers are broken.

Get the very latest ones from the ATI website, or if that's what you've already got, you might want a slightly older one. Sometimes slightly older drivers work better on slightly older cards - search the 3D forums for posts on your specific part. Now get driver cleaner, run it, restart, do _not_ allow windows to install it's default drivers, then run the ATI executable.

maybe dumb advice but did you install the drivers for the monitor? The advanced display tab only shows resolutions that both the card & the monitor support. Maybe you are running a generic monitor driver that's limited to 1024x768?

I think you are somewhere near the problem. For some reason it says, "No driver files required or have been loaded for this device." They have a black Dell E551C monitor. It is a pretty old monitor. I downloaded some drivers off the internet to try it, but I cannot get the Windows XP deal to detect them. I would kind of rather just put them in manually. Would probably be a little easier. The files it came with were:

E551c - [ICC Profile]
E551cme - [Security Catalog]
E551c - [Setup Information]

I am not to sure where I would put those files.

Also on a side note, in the Setup Information it says:
; AddReg & DelReg sections
;-------------------------------------------------

[DEL_CURRENT_REG]
HKR,MODES
HKR,,MaxResolution
HKR,,DPMS
HKR,,ICMProfile

[1024]
HKR,,MaxResolution,,"1024,768"

[DPMS]
HKR,,DPMS,,1

; AddReg sections
;----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[E551c.AddReg]
HKR,"MODES\1024,768",Mode1,,"30.0-54.0,50.0-120.0,+,+"
HKR,,ICMProfile,0,"E551c.icm"

I tried looking around in the registry, but I don't believe they are in there because no drivers for the monitor were installed supposedly. Would this mean that they designed these monitors max resolution to be at 1024x768 from the information given in this file?

If so, I don't really understand why the monitor would work at 1280x1024 before I installed the ATI Catalyst drivers. I think it might have been a little blurry, so maybe it just really isn't designed to be run at that high a resolution.

I will try maybe rolling back the ATI drivers if I have too, but I don't really think that would change anything... I wouldn't think it would be anyways.

I don't have to have it at 1280x1024, it would just be a lot better in my opinion. I think I have a newer HP monitor somewhere I might just try and use instead of this one for their computer. Wouldn't mind some more ideas/suggestions before I say, "Forget about it."
