I have a x3350 with a gigabyte x48-dq6 mobo, and I'm trying to find out what the max idle temperature I can run it at safely? and whats the max temp?

I have it OCed to 3.6GHz right now, its at 40C, I wanted to push it higher but want to know if it will be safe. Thanks

install the latest version of coretemp here: http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/

check your temps while running prime95 on all 4 cores. As long as you're below 70 you're ok.

edit: idle temps don't mean anything, load temps are the important part.

I was running sisoft sandras processor arithmetic test, core 0 went up to 77c at one point, others were 72, 70, 70. So I should definetely reduce the speed or get a better heatsink, right?

what hsf are you using now? . what temp do you get with prime 95 on all 4 cores?

edited out temp advice.

I can do 3576 and it does 65c on the high core at full load. 77c is too hot IMO. And what vcore @ load ?

Core 0 tends to go quite high for me. But you definitely need better cooling, my friend. After some extreme mods, my X3350 was idling around 15C and max loading at 55C at 3.80GHz. Before, those were 45C and 80C...

Who needs better cooling ? I already have a TRUE 120 Extreme lapped. And 65c is no big deal....

I must admit that I am kinda scared to see how high your temps are at 3.576 mark, esp with a lapped true. I definitely need to pull out the sandpaper for the tuniq.

What speed do you have your cpu fan set at? Is it auto-adjusted or set at a specific rpm? What fan do you use?

extreme mods probably consist of lapping the heatsink of the cooler and the IHS of the chip.

Lapping the heatsink, lapping the IHS, putting heat spreaders and/or coolers all around the CPU socket area, and put a whole bunch of fans over that place. Thanks to the Antec Nine Hundred case, the fans can still be had without having to open the case up.

And I live in Santa Cruz. It's usually 22C here. But the CPU does idle at 15C. Unless I stress the system really hard, there's just cold air blowing out.

Edit:
Pic or it didn't happen, right?

17C after OCCT. I measured the temperature around the CPU socket, and it was actually around 16-17C. "--" in RealTemp would give me better results then.
If you want to check your exact temps without having to use a meter of some sort, just undervolt and underclock the CPU as much as you can, then... if you have an air conditioner, turn the ambient temp up or down to some fixed value, and check RealTemp. Typically, your lowest temperature (for one core) should be +1 to +3C compared to ambient temp at most.

Wow those are great numbers... Currently doing 3.2GHZ at 1.33v. You think I should raise it a bit more? Temps at ~55C

Not sure if this is a question to me, but Im using 2 thermalake 120mm fans, I was looking for something quiet. Each fan pushes 78CFM according to the box.

I broke down and got an x3350, I just installed it and viola 400mhz without breaking a sweat. Now that I've got it at a sweet 3.2ghz which Core temps should I be aiming for?

CoreTemp is showing 77c under load from prime 95, but aisuite shows 67 - 68c. I'm using a thermaltake i1 right now (http://www.newegg.com/Product/...?Item=N82E16835106085) - do you think I need a better cooler?

I noticed my prime 95 run died on one thread almost immediately, then another one died a bit later. It says there was a rounding error and to consult stress.txt which I can't locate.

Edit - Tried it with the 1024k data sets and threads are staying up, maybe I need to juice up the cpu a little more? VID is currently 1.0625v
