x48 vs P45

Is there any benefit of the x48 over the P45 is someone wasn't going to do a crossfire setup?

I'm looking at the Asus P5Q Deluxe (P45) and the Asus Rampage Formula (x48). Any reason to spend more on the formula vs the about $60 less expensive P5Q? My motherboard is going to hell and is giving a lot of problems lately. Swapping it and my PSU to eliminate some problems that I know they are causing.

Well I just both an DFI X48 board to replace that POS nForce 790i, the reason is I know I'll CrossFireX next year so I wanted the full 16X 2.0 bandwidth.

How do you like the DFI board? Is it stable and easy to overclock with? I remember their Nforce 4 boards for AMD were the top of the line, then they went down hill. I hear DFI is no longer going to produce motherboards?

hehe well I finished installing it today, I haven't overclocked my Q9650 with it yet. I just updated the latest bios everything seems stable. The reason why I bought this board is because my evga nForce 790i board killed one of my DDR3 ram stick while overclocking, so I needed an alternative DDR3 board plus it matches every color in my case . DFI LANPARTY LT X48-T3RS was the cheapest board, to tell you the truth I wanted ASUS or Abit if they were still in business.

I think Asus is much easier to overclock, I looked at the bios a moment ago and it gave me Headache. Too many settings for everything, and I'm not gonna use most of them. If you're an hardcore overclocker I think it's worth it if not stick with Asus.

I remember DFI boards having BIOS settings out the wazoo but a team of engineers and techs that could give you help on adjusting them.

Asus support is blah but they were always good stable boards for me. Think I'll go with Asus only because I've read of some headaches with DFI's ethernet ports (Marvell chip).

I have a Asus RF X48, it's been nice, but I still running an old Core 2 Duo E6400 OCed.
I dont know what is your intention in terms of OC level, but since you got a quad, P45 are better oclockers for quads than X48. Also both Asus MBs have marvell chips for network controllers, I've never had a single problem with them.
Thought about Gigabyte EP45-UD3P? It very good OCer, built one system for my nephew, has realtek network controller, very good with quads.
On the DFI, I owned a NF4 too, and since that, never had one anymore. But what I've read about it is very good in terms of OC, way more adjusts, but many ppl say it really a "hit or miss, or love and hate" stories. But if IRC everything works on DFI X48, and probably DFI P45, because I remember many ppl reporting that on Asus and Gigabyte mobos the C3/C4 states the system does not resume correctly. May check the thread X48 Rampage Formula on XS. They talk about that there, but it is a long thread.

Anything willing to know about RF and EP45UD3P just ask.

Was going to send this in a PM but it seems you have those turned off or aren't allowed to receive them. I went ahead and got the Gigabyte EP45-UD3P and it's a great board so far. I'm stable at 3.6Ghz at 1.328v (1.35 set in bios and loadline calibration on). Only thing is this board does not restart. What I mean is if I restart windows the board will not power down and then power on. I have to manually press the power button and wait a second and power it back on. Minor inconvenience. Also, if I save and exit the BIOS I need to do the same thing. Other than that I'm happy with this board. Lots of USB ports, I don't even need my HUB that I purchased because the IP35-Pro didn't have enough. I have the rev 1.1 of the board.

Sorry I do not know if it came by default or maybe I changed the settings, but now the PM is enabled so everyone can send it to me.
I think you did a great choice going to EP45-UD3P! The only bad thing I think is the POST, it takes a few seconds to get into starting loading Windows.
Regards to your inconvenience problem of restart, I do not remember this happening, did you check ACPI configurations? Is ACPI 2.0 enabled in BIOS? Very odd!

Yes, ACPI is on. I've read of some other reports of this happening to other users.

They still are and will continue to do so.
From what I read in google the past 30mins, the only thing they've done different is kick their North American support team in the gonads by shutting down DFI street several times for long periods and firing both Oskar Wu and Travis Hill who used to provide overclock tips/settings, specially modified bioses and also troubleshoot. Apparently they were very critical about management and DFI didn't like that.

That whole incident left a sour taste in my mouth that I don't see myself getting a DFI product anytime soon.

That's what I heard, but I assumed at the time since I hadn't kept up on the topic, that DFI was going out. I have heard that EVGA is really excellent when it comes to support. When I upgrade to i7 which could be in the next month or so depending on a few small things, I'm definately looking at EVGA.
