X800 Pro Problems

After about 20 or so boots trying to get my new computer up and running, I get a "Please check signal cable" message on my monitor and then the monitor shuts off. When this occured I said "Hmm ok" and proceeded to take out of the cable running from the monitor to my X800 Pro. I have since gotten the same message every time that I have attempted to turn on the computer. I don't think it is a power issue because I have a 420W power supply and the fan on the video card still runs. Any ideas on what is wrong?

P.S. The monitor works with all my other computers.

Mine did that with processor problems. Is it a new build? Oops sorry, I read the complete post and it is a new build. Check the processor seating etc. and beep code?

I will do that right now. Thanks, I'll post back if it doesn't work.

Edit: Guess that wasn't it, but thanks for the suggestion.

try another video card in that system. If it works, maybe rma or that video card in another system (like mine).

Yeah, I wish that I had another system to test it in but I don't right now. That's one of the things that I really want to do.

I better not have a similar problem with mine this week. What brand card is it?

The card is the regular ATI brand, not any other X800 version. I am going to RMA my motherboard soon, so do you think that I should RMA that first then test, or RMA the motherboard and the video card, replacing both at once?

You don't know a single other person with an AGP slot or another video card you could drop into your rig to see if the problem persists? RMA'ing a bunch of parts is going to be a hassle.

does the mb not have a beep code? that may give you an idea. Or take it to the local small computer shop. The kid there will be so happy to see that card that I am sure you will be able to test it quickly.

I have yet to do any overclocking, I just want the card to work! I might be able to take the card into a computer store around here, but the employees are so arrogant that it makes me want to puke...

Sadly, I do not think that I can find another person to test the card on but I will check around at the lan center here.

Edit: I am using the AMD 64 3200+ and ASUS K8V SE Deluxe, the problem might be in the motherboard because I have had nothing but problems with it before this problem occured.

I've heard of a similar instance.

I assume you've reset your CMOS already...

try reseating the vid card if you haven't...

Maybe I missed it but is your processor beeping at all?

If you attach a speaker to the mobo most of the newer asus boards tell you the nature of the problem... (or try to at least)

I know on my A7n8x it yelled at me when I had my ram unproperly seated after doing things in a hurry.

Reset CMOS, reseated the card multiple times. I just hooked up my headset, and I can hear the lady saying something but I can't tell what she's saying it sounds like "please constale cputa" wtf is that?

erm...

I.... don't.... know....

Double check your manual. I know when I owned my A7N8X there was a listing of the verbal commands in the motherboard manual.

Almost sounds like the mobo died on you though

I agree, sounds more like the motherboard than the X800. Where is your old video card? Try that out for starters. If you don't have one, I would RMA the motherboard since it was already giving you problems (what were the problems BTW?). I would buy a new motherboard to use while the other one is off getting RMA'ed, then that would allow me to test the X800 right away. Then if it still won't work, an RMA on that would be in order. I wouldn't go replacing that one just yet though as it's too expensive.
Then when the old motherboard comes back to you fixed, just sell it, problem solved.

EDIT: What brand is your power supply?

Remove everything from the case and see if it works. You could have stand-off in the wrong spot shorting something out.

I have an Enermax "Noisetaker" Power Supply, I'm pretty sure that is not the problem because everything powers up (fans, lights, etc). I'll try unpluging everything later tonight, but I think it must have died. My hard drive wasn't being recognized before this happened, which was the other problem.

Edit: The message is "System Failed CPU Test" is this a motherboard or CPU problem?

Message could be several things.

CPU seated incorrectly

Ram seated wrong ( I got this)

You could have overclocked too far in bios

Put ram timings too high.

I've gotten that error message for the last 2... until I turned off the reporting lady..

I haven't done any overclocking with the CPU or the RAM. So, I will reseat them both tomorrow, and see what happens.

I had a PC reset like that from inserting the floppy cable incorrectly, also from a harddrive connector that was only halfway inserted, and one time even a dying keyboard did the same.

Its worthwhile in this situation to just reassemble everything from scratch as it forces you to reevaluate every connection and cable. Oftentimes simply checking things isnt enough. (you did make sure to use the brass case standoffs between the case and motherboard I presume, not doing so can cause reboots)

If you live in a town or something and dont have any friends to borrow an AGP videocard from, probably worth your while to buy a $10 Radeon or something just to see if it is indeed the X800pro screwing up or not. (make sure if you do buy something that its a 1.5v card, the original Radeons onward were all 1.5v)

I reassembled everything but I got the same message. "System failed CPU Test". One thing that I did notice when I reseated the CPU was that a couple of pins were slightly bent, I moved these back into their normal position. Could the CPU be the problem and not the motherboard? Also, there is a continuous beep now, when I boot the computer.
