One vote to decide it all. Please don't flame each other this time. This thread is going to attract every fanboy on the AT Forums, but please, keep it clean!!!

ati wins some, nvidia wins some, they are about the same at the top end level cards, for the cheaper stuff, Nvidia takes the cake with the 6800gt. i want a price war

I really think both of the series' are pretty much equal. Kudos to both companies for high performance for us.

cards are fairly equal, though I voted for ati because they got it done with less power/space

I think both companies did a good job this time I voted NV cause I will probably get a 6800 GT a few months after their release.

considering you can't get a 6800, at this time x800pro rules the roost.

Nvidia; no little kids go around saying how much they "rox" and the competition (and anyone who likes said competition) "sux", etc. As in all other things, I try to stay as far as possible from small children. That being said, I probably won't be upgrading my 4600 for a while yet.

The NV 6800 is superior, but I'd rather have the Radeon. I ain't tossin my 340 W PS to eat more power out of a 480 W supply to heat and feed parts of the GPU that might not even be used anytime soon. And by the time they are useful, they'l be faster vid cards out.

cliff notes: Nvidia is too power hungry. Note to NV: quantum leap to 32 nm process. (j/k)

As always ati rocks and the x800 is no different. Look at how power the 6800 needs. Althogh i like the cinefx 3.0 feature the ati is the victor again.

Well, the 6800 has MANY more features than the x800... so in that respect, nVidia comes out on top, no doubt about it.

The x800 seems to have a performance advantage over the 6800... so in that respect, ATI comes out on top... however, the drivers used for both cards are still beta drivers and we haven't seen what kind of performance benefits there are running SM 3.0 on the 6800 vs. SM 2.0 on the x800. There is one thing we have seen... dramatically improved image quality in the 6800 using displacement mapping, which is a featured included in SM 3.0 that the x800 does not, and will not support until probably the next core revision.

My vote goes to the 6800 right now because displacement mapping and it's media encoding/decoding capabilities are more valuable to me than 5% better performance in games. And by the way... screw "how power the 6800 needs" ... it's plastered all over the forum and the internet in general, that nVidia is reducing the power supply requirement, and moving to a single molex connector on retail 6800 Ultra cards.

my vote goes to ATi because they are so much better than Nvidia all the time, doesnt matter what you are comparing. they pwn nvidia in opengl as well and in PS3.0 even though it is not supported by the X800 series

6800 has superior tech from a features point of view - really wish it had 3Dc too.

Right now, ATi has superior performance where it counts - i.e. games with shaders, so I don't think nVidia's superior OpenGL performance in games like COD and Quake 3 (lol) is anything to get too excited about.

The benchies in Anand's review showed that a driver update could make the 6800GT outperform the 6800U with the older driver in some games. Point being, it does look like there's a lot of potential for 6800 performance to improve significantly with better drivers.

Off-topic, but I really wish Valve would release a Half Life 2 benchmark app to reviewers really soon, this would make things so much easier! Also, just checked out 18 mins of W40K Dawn Of War gameplay footage. Wow - this game is now at #3 on my most wanted list. Wonder if that uses geometry instancing on 6800s.

Disclaimer: My vote should not be construed as a recommendation for purchasing.
Past performance is not an indication of future performance.
The video card market is very volatile.
You may lose money on your investment.

My vote goes to ATI

Based partially on the article linked below.
This is good read for anyone contemplating using Nvidia via DVI.

I support ATi: they have much better RAVE API support than nvidia, they have absolutely incredible frame rates for high levels of Ansiotropic Filtering (they don't even decrease when you bump it from 4x to 16x), they have incredibly fast always-on trilinear filtering, they have incredible drivers for linux, they totally whoop nVidia in OpenGL and OpenAL, and especially DirectX 9.1.

I have not decided yet, and will not till I see them working with True drivers and I want to see if there is a difference between VS2.0 and 3,0 (which seems there will).

Don't be a fanboy. Ati has it's Pros and its Cons as Nvidia has. Ati still has the lead, we'll see what happens when both cards are fully working. Statements as yours are pure fanboysm.

After the ATI optimizations crap.

Im going to get the 6800Ultra..

It proves that ATI is starting to lose its hold on top, and it reverts to what it accused Nvidia of doing.

ATI wins virutally every benchmark, such as farcry, ut2004 (with AA and AF) etc... nVidia is good too, but performance is lacking. Until we see new games with new features such as PS3.0, ATI will reign king. When is that going to happen? Mabye 2006 when unreal3 comes out?
