X800 vs X1600

I currently have an X800 (256MB) AGP card but would like to upgrade. I was looking at an X1600 (512 MB) AGP card online. I am stuck with AGP for now since I just upgraded MB/CPU and got an AGP capable MB to save a few bucks. If I would have had the money to upgrade my video card at the time of the MB/CPU upgrade I would have.

OK, finally on to my question.........will the X1600 be an improvement over my X800. If so will it be enough to make it worth spending the money. I mainly play games, everything from Farcry, Quake 4, WOW etc........

My current basic system specs are as follows;

Athlon 64 3800+, 1 GB ram, ATI Radeon X800 Pro

No, it wouldn't be worth it, in fact, it'd be a slight downgrade. Save up and get a PCI-Express system, as an X800pro is still a pretty good card. Not the best, but still pretty good.

remember that a card like 1600 serries can't make use of 512mb, it may help you with 256mb, but all of them may not even be able to make full use of 256mb

as a 6600gt whether 128mb or 256mb more or less performs equal in most games, probably.

jnopw x1600 is not MUCH faster than a x800pro (thats 12 piplines right).

also which socket is your A64. maybe get the asrock mobo with pci-E and agp.

An X800Pro would smoke the X1600 in pretty much every game out there. Remember that the X1600 barely edges out the 6600GT in most games and the X800Pro smokes the 6600GT as well.

and x800 non pro, i think is just barely slower than an x1600xt. i think the agp x1600s are just pro models, so the x800 is still probably better.

the x1600pro agp would probably only keep up with an x800se (8pipe)
