X800XL is MUCH better. 4 more pipes and higher clocking. X800 is more comparable to the 6600GT...the X800XL is 6800GT performance. TOTALLY worth the extra $30 for the XL.

I suppose everyone outside of Georgia has enjoyed Monarch's pricing etc... but I must say being local I have been disappointed by them everytime I've attempted to do business with them. I was going to go down there today to purchase this item instead of dealing with ordering it online and having it shipped plus taxes when I can drive down there quickly... now with the price change they won't honor the weekend price. Having them local ruins most deals as is, but when they aren't opened through the weekend with decent hours, and run 'weekend specials' what is the point. Back to ZZF, newegg, and Fry's for my needs, thanks.

These are brand new cards, right? Not refurb? If so, I'm about to give some customers free upgrades.

And any idea when this deal ends?

Received this card today. Though the site said OEM, the Connect3D/ATI (Graphics by ATI Certified) box included an s-video out cable + composite adapters and a DVI to VGA adapter.
I was not aware that the X800XL is NOT powered directly to the power supply. It gets all the power it needs through the PCI-E slot. I spent some time choosing a power supply for my new AMD-64/X800XL PCI Express system, but I eliminated all PSU's that did not have the separate power lead for the new & power hungry video cards.
I would be happy to describe the performance of my new system, but I ordered the AMD-64/motherboard (+ Half Life2 coupon/Far Cry DVD-64/Napster 4-months) combo separately, and there was a problem with verification of my billing address (the one they had already sent the video card to) and it still hasn't shipped yet. Sigh.

It appears just the opposite. Seems you need only a 20 pin to 24 pin adapter to power the PCI-E motherboard. The PCI-E x16 video slot provides the power to this card. As long as the PSU has enough power, you don't need a new PSU with the 6-pin connector for this card.

As far as I know, the new PCI-E motherboards all use the new 24 pin power connectors. I have a CoolMax 400 watt PSU, which has a 20 pin motherboard connector and no 6-pin connector. A 20 to 24-pin adapter was included in the box, so you could use this PSU for a 24-pin motherboard. Check the picture of the motherboard you just ordered, you should be able to count the pins in the power connector.

The PSU powers the motherboard. The motherboard powers the X800XL videocard (through the PCI-E x16 slot). Most other high powered videocards need the 6-pin connector from the PSU. Not this one.

I was going to use this CoolMax 400 watt for my new system, but instead I ordered the Antec NeoPower 480W PSU because I thought I needed a 6-pin power lead, and also because I figured it would be a good idea to be sure I had enough power for the new parts + my 6 IDE devices, 3 fans, 2 floppy drives, etc.

I don't think you can power one of these motherboards with a 20-pin PSU without the adapter.

I am using a 20-pin power connector on a 24-pin mobo (DFI Ultra-D) without an adapter and my X800XL runs Doom 3 just fine. (I.e., only 20 of the 24 pins on my mobo have power running through them.)

But... I'm having trouble installing the new drivers and keep getting a "Severe: Zero Display Service Error." I don't see how this would be related to power, but I searched google and found one guy who said he got rid of this error message when he upgraded to a better PSU with 24 pins. Some guys on the DFI forums say that everything will work fine on a 24-pin board using a 20-pin PSU (without adapter) provided it has good power ratings.

If I ran across a 20-24 pin adapter for cheap (<$5 shipped), I'd probably buy it for peace of mind.

I believe the x800xl is one of the few high end cards which does NOT need an external power supply nor a 24-pin adaptor.
