How come there not much talk about this card.

16pipeline x6, 256mb GDDR3, pixel shader vertex shader 2.0b for $350 if it doesnt have a supply problem, i think the 6800gt will have a run for its money on the pci express port if it doesnt lower its price down. I hope its here by then end of january (hear talks of how its suppose to be here by end of December) also i hope it has a better heat sink so it'll have better oc potential

Its a 16 pipeline card with a lot of overclocking potential at a decent price point. In all likelihood, the X800XL will OC to XTPE speeds easily.

Edit - Misread the OP. My mistake.

There is some talk about the XL, but it seems like there should be more.

Low price and .11 fab. May lead to wild overclocks on the cheap (if over $300 is cheap).

Those who keep saying the XL will 'easily' overclock to XT PE seem to not realize that they're talking about a 30% overclock, which on any video card is wishful thinking. While the XL will definitely provide some fun for overclockers on the cheap, I highly doubt many will reach 520 or 540 core without some serious cooling addons.

I think the X800XL will be a great overclocker. I took my 0.11u X300 to 470mhz, which is a 45% overclock, on stock cooling (which is puny by the way).

Yeah X800XL seems to be a promising card. Let's wait for the reviews before predicting the outlook on overclocking though.

However, since Nvidia cancelled NV48, 6800GT/6800Ultra will be the only competitors on the high-end for now. If I was in Nvidia's shoes, to regain the position on the top, I would promote the SLI option. One way of doing so is to make SLI more affordable. Of course since SLi implies acquiring 2 videocards, the company could lower the price per videocard to make SLI more effective. If 6800GT were to be priced close to $300, it would be more competitive as a standalone card, and could then also compete with $550 X850 XT PE on the high end as a dual $600 SLi option.

If Nvidia could do that, then ATI would be in some serious trouble.

Perhaps vendors should just bunble two 6600GTs, two 6800GTs, or two 6800 Ultras in a single box?

ATI is supposed to have it own multi VPU technology coming soon. Here's hoping its better than the AFR on their MAXX card.

does anyone know why the ATI x800 xl has disappeared from almost every vendor's website and is being listed as discontinued by some??

That's what happens with paper launched products...either they never make it to market in decent quantities, or it takes them months upon months to do so.
