What games do you play? What is your motherboard chipset?

The nforce3 chipsets work better with nvidia graphics cards. The X800XT in the U.S. is more expensive than the 6800GT by ~$100.

X800XT is also faster than the 6800GT in general comparisons excluding specific games with a clear advantage to one card.

If both were the same price, I'd go for the X800XT.

Eh? $500 for a 6800 GT? Damn man, where you lookin at your prices?

Other than that, I agree with the poster #2. If you have nforce3 board, go with the GT. It's also a better value.

EDIT

Scratch that, if you can get an x800 XT for the same price as the 6800 GT, definetly go with the XT.

^^Agreed with everyone above^^. If both are priced at $500 then you should go with the X800XT. It's a much better performer.

X800XT over 6800GT.

but I'd go with the 6800GT if you are getting a X800 Pro

No idea what my mobo chipset is, but I'm strongly considering swapping my G800 GT for an x800XT after all the Doom 3 probs I've been having...

I have a Gigabyte SINXP-1394 mobo, Pentium 4 proc. and 1gb of OCZ DDR ram, running in dual channel mode.

Really really frustrated right now, since I sold my 9700 Radeon and decided to go with the nVidia card...

agreed. only in doom 3 does ati get killed in performance vs nvidia. the x800 xt is the generally on par overall with the 6800 ultra. the gt itself owns the x800 pro though.

First off, how are u paying that much? Usually the xt is more then the gt, and a bit faster also. They usually fall where they should be in prices and definately not at $500 each.

Yeah, the GT should be $400 at most. If you are actually looking at an Ultra, then it is a toss-up between the the XT and the Ultra - Ultra has better features, the XT is maybe ~.5%-1% faster on average. It's up to you which is more important. Also, I personally feel that the 6800 architecture shows more potential on the newest engines, i.e. Doom3 and Farcry, and I don't expect it to be too bad in HL2, either, although the X800 will probably win in that category. Anyways, I suggest you look around for a sub-$400 6800GT, it's a far better value than the XT or Ultra. Around 95% of the performance for around 75% of the cost seems like a good deal. In fact, bestbuy has the BFG 6800GT OC for $400, and it's overclocked to 375MHz, just 25MHz shy of the Ultra! It also has a lifetime warranty. In fact, bestbuy usually has that 10% off sale during thanksgiving, so I imagine you'll be able to get it for $360 in a few weeks. That's just my recommendation, though, if there is no problem spending $500 on a video card, then either the XT or Ultra will serve you well. Oh, BTW, don't get the X800 Pro. It's just not a good value for the money compared to the GT.

Hard to say, but his sig says Poland.

If you are indeed comparing an X800XT & a 6800GT, then for sure the X800XT.

If you meant X800 Pro vs. 6800 GT, for sure the 6800 GT.
