X800 XT vs 6800GT

Initially, I thought I was definately going to go with the GT. As far as I'm concerned, it's easily the better option next to the X800 Pro (at least as long as they're comparably priced). However, with the the X800XT for sale already at $450 and the GT not set to debut for another month and for only $50 less, do you think it's worth ordering the XT now? Do you think the GT will be available for less than $400 when it hits the market?

I'd go ahead and get the XT, but I'm afraid I'll miss SM3.0 and that with new drivers the GT will make up some of the performance gap.

I'm just weighing my options and I'd like to know what you all think. Thanks.



*EDIT* I should've checked the Compusa site before posting because I see now that the XT isn't shipping until the end of June. By that time we'll know more about the GT and it's pricing so I suppose this question should and will have to wait until then.

well, i think you will be able to find the GT for less than $400. i'm thinking something like $350 since the X800 pro had an MSRP of $499 but people were still able to buy it for $350-360

MSRP on the pro is 399 and yes, I also expect with the fierce competition between ATI and nVidia that street price on both the X800 Pro and the 6800GT will be ~$350 from the outset (As we've already seen on the X800 pro) and only go lower as the fight intensifies. It'll be interesting to see if the 6800GTs come with a DoomIII coupon; the X800 Pros so far don't come with anything.

ATI is claiming the X800 XT should be on shelves in late May/1H of June so who knows but you're definitely right, you'll probably be waiting until mid-June either way so you've got time to see what happens. btw it's not really fair to compare the two cards as the XT has an MSRP and likely street price $100 above the GT.
