Bought the card and the mod works. I could only get the core to about 530MHz but the memory could do over 600MHz. So it's almost XT PE speeds. The stock cooler works pretty well.

Any pics or evidence. Sorry but somehow i doubt that the GTO managed to be modded to an XTPE

So do I, but of course if he had a GTO^2 then it would be a different story.

There are lots of people running at XT-PE speeds on their GTO^2s, just search around the video forum.

i thought that the mod and success rate was pretty much common knowledge...and he said GTO2...

Oh just at XT PE speeds. I thought you meant unlocking the rest of the pipes, and what not. Sorry.

That should give you an idea of what this card is capable of. I thought it might be crazy at first, but it really does look like a simple BIOS flash and overclock gives you x850xt-pe speeds and performance.

EDIT: Also see this link if still in doubt: http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/overclocking/vidcard/127/3

I did actually mean with the pipes with the GTO^2. It's running at 16pipes at close to XT PE speeds(the stock cooler seems to be very good). If you've read about it before you would know that it's basically having a 100% success rate so I don't really know why a screenshot is needed. I was just passing on some information that I thought might be useful to some others. I have no reason to lie about it.

I live in Toronto, Canada. I bought it from some place that had ONE left and they seemed to be the only place selling it from where I searched. I asked if they would get more in but they said probably not cause it was only a limited run. I bought it for about US$235 or about CAD$280 including tax.

We need to find out if the AGP version will do it also and whether or not the same BIOSes can be used.

I don't believe there's an AGP version right? Nowhere I have looked had there been an AGP version, but I could be wrong.

from what everyone else has been saying, NO! it might kill your card.

it is IMPOSSIBLE to kill your card with a bad BIOS flash [unless it is o/c'd and overheats the core] . . . you just flash it back

and NO do NOT use the BIOS from the PCIe XTPE!!
:Q

. . . rather the one from the AGP xtpe

Numerous people have called to confirm that it IS an AGP version of the GTO2

We just need a guiena pig to test it out

Here is a link to the AGP GTO2 thread on AT

Where the hell have you been? Lots of us got GTO2's and have unlocked and overclocked them to XT PE. Me included. FFS!

Athlongamer it is funny how you don't even bother to read what you link. Kris said he called the Sapphire Public Relations person and was told they do not have an AGP version.
Another person called the sales dept and was told they have an AGP version. Kris has yet to say if it has been confirmed.
The SKU number being used for this AGP version is the same SKU being used on the PCI-E version.

Special Conditions This item is returnable for replacement only. It can only be exchanged with the same item.

So if you buy it and it turns out to be a normal AGP GTO or a non moddable AGP GTO^2 you are SOL.

At the beginning Allstarshop.com was listing an AGP GTO^2 with the same part number as the PCI-E (Mfg P/N 100130). Now you can't find an AGP GTO^2 on that website.

Isn't the pic of the card in the link that Athlongamer gave of the PCI-E version? Isn't that a PCI-E connector on the bottom of the card?

If you overclock the X800GTO2 to X850XTPE speeds, I believe the cards run hot and you may need to install a better performing heatsink/fan. Could some folks who have mod'ed/advanced the clocks please let the rest of us know what temps you're getting with the stock HS/F?

Thanks,

Bud

I think people can be too skeptical - its the same core as the X850 XT-PE, it won't run scary hot. Person after person has OC'd to XT-PE on stock cooling or even faster. Person after person has also said the stock cooling is good. But if in doubt buy an ATI silencer.

I have an X850XT PE (a real one) and it does run very hot - up to 72C load in some games (less stressful ones like Warcraft 3 are in the mid 60's). So these are the temps to shoot for on the GTO's on stock cooling. I'll be getting an ATI silencer soon so I'll post my results. My X850XT PE overclocks to 600/635 (haven't tested long-term stability, just an informal benchmark or two), so there's some breathing room even in the top cards .

Just curious as I have bought an X850XTPE, what would the best 3rd party (QUIET) cooler be? Zalman VF700-CU, Arctic ATI silencer... other?

All right. I just redid the thermal compound on my GTO2 and I have comments to make about the stock thermal compound and it's application.

1. They (Sapphire) was over applied the compound on the GPU of my card. It was a mess when I lifted the cooler off for the first time. But it did look like some kind of silver based stuff.

2. They (Sapphire) chumped out on the memory chips. There were tiny dots of some bs compound that couldn't possibly be doing the job right.

My stock temps. are about 5C lower right now. Same ambient temp. in the house and the card is at the same exact settings. So there is some benefit to be gained. Hopefully I'll be able to overclock my card better now.

Personally, I've got the ATI silencer on order. It's ultra quiet, exhausts the hot air out the back, and has very good cooling for the RAM since it's a large metal plate that covered the whole back and touches all the RAM chips.

The Zalman is supposed to be a few degrees cooler in the GPU than the Silencer, and comes with tape-on RAMsinks that also do the job. It's also supposed to be very quiet.

I like the fact that the silencer blows the hot air out the back - exhausting hot air is very good in my medium sized case. Both are good solutions, really. I just find the silencer to be a bit more elegant.
